Born in Knoxville, Eastern Tennessee, Jacob Whitesides developed an early association with pop music. Watching his father perform regularly in a cover band and attending local bluegrass festivals fuelled his infatuation with live music performances. His mother, working three jobs at a time, untiringly drove him to practice sessions and trials in Nashville while his younger sister helped him film videos of his own to be posted to YouTube. Inspired by legends like John Mayer and Jack Johnson, the young musician spent his early years experimenting with guitars and instruments like drums, electric lead, banjo and ukulele.

In 2008, Whitesides had a brief spell at Fox Television's reality singing competition X Factor after which he started posting self-made music videos on YouTube. The talented youth became an instant online sensation as viewership skyrocketed to 10 million and counting. The artist enjoys a huge online fan following with almost 1.42 million Twitter followers, more than 1.3 million likes on Facebook and over 700,000 followers on both Instagram and Vine. During a Junior Voice Competition, Jacob Whitesides was awarded Knoxville, Tennessee's Best Young Voice. At the age of 15, Whitesides released his first new track "You're Perfect" which sold around 25000 copies. The gifted singer has successfully completed three tours and gave a hit single "You & I" in his cover of the band One Direction.
