Bob Marley & the Wailers was initially founded in 1963, and continued till 1981. The original line-up consisted of Bunny Wailer, Peter Tosh and Bob Marley. Their music sold over two hundred and fifty million albums and topped charts all over the world. When Bob Marley died in 1981, the band disbanded temporarily, only to come back as The Wailers Band, which consisted of the previous group members and a few new additions such as Aston Barrett and Junior Marvin. Since 1981, the Wailers have performed all over the world and have become one of the most watched reggae acts in the industry.
The current line-up of the band includes Rohan Reid, Tyrone Downie, Al Anderson, Howard Smith and Chet Samuels among others. Members of the band often keep changing as the band grows over the years. Past years have seen Alvin Seeco Patterson, Carlton Barrett, Earl Wire Lindo and Elan Atias join the line-up as well. Over the years, they have worked with some of the industry's heavyweights such as Stevie Wonder, Santana, Sting and Kenny Chesney. Performing all over the world, and releasing hit after hit album, the band has currently performed to a crowd of over twenty million people and has become one of the highest selling, most watched musical acts around.
To date, the Wailers have released numerous albums. Their debut studio offering, I.D., was released in 1989, and featured hits such as "Love One Another," "Chasing Tomorrow," "Reggae Love" and "One One Coco." The success of this album led to the release of their sophomore album in 1991, titled Majestic Warriors. The songs on the album included hits such as "Sweet Cry Freedom," "Dancing Boys," "Nothin' for Nothin'," and "Could You Be Loved." This album was followed by the 1994 release, JAH Message and the 2000 release Heritage of Dub. Since then, the band has not released any new studio recordings. However, it has managed to churn out multiple tour and collaboration albums. Their collaboration albums include recordings with artists such as John Denver, Joe Yamanaka, and Karl Zero.
Over the years, this reggae powerhouse has collected a strong base of followers. It keeps on making some of the most recognizable reggae music and makes sure that this genre does not become obsolete. Taking their cue from the master of reggae himself, they have molded their music to become instant hits. They continue to go around the world to perform in different countries and keep the memory of Bob Marley alive. To catch this seminal act in action, get Wailers tickets now.
The Wailers are an incarnation of reggae band Bob Marley & The Wailers that was initially founded in 1963, and came into its current form in 1981 after Marley's death. During the latter's lifetime their music sold over two hundred and fifty million albums all over the world. In England, they reached above twenty chart hits, with as many as seven top ten songs. Besides playing with Marley, the Wailers played with international artists such as Stevie Wonder, Carlos Santana, Sting, as well as legendary reggae stars like Colbie Caillat, Jason Mraz, Eve and Kenny Chesney. Over the years, the group completed many tours, performing before a sum of about twenty-four million people worldwide, including some of the biggest shows in the Far East and Africa. Studio albums by the current band include I.D., Heritage of Dub, JAH Message, and Majestic Warriors, while their live albums include Live 2003, Live in Jamaica, Live at Maritime Hall, My Friends and Legend Tour. In 2008, the band was featured in Kenny Chesney's single "Everyone Wants to Go Heaven", which charted to the number one spot on the US Country charts. The Wailers tickets are an immense favorite among reggae fans who can hardly wait to watch the artists in their live act.
The Wailers have continued to play live, and performed on 311's Summer Unity tour in 2006, along with Pepper. Their current lineup comprises of Koolant Brown and Elan Atias as lead vocalists; Aston Barrett as bassist; Keith Sterling as keyboardist; Anthony Watson as drummer; Audley Chisholm as rhythm guitarist; Chico Chin as trumpet-player; Everald Gayle as trombonist; Cegee Victory and Brady Walters as backing vocalist. Aston Barrett also known as the 'Family Man' is considered to be the real anchor of the group, since not only is he the Marley's most relied-on comrade, he has also performed on numerous other classic reggae hits all through the seventies. He brings an authenticity to the Wailer's style that is inarguably definitive while it still mixes old-school elements with the breathtaking lead vocals of Jamaica's most talented new singers. The band has made appearances on releases by other artists including Karl Zero, Iya Karna, Alpha Blondy, Sharin' in the Groove, Joe Yamanaka, and John Denver.
Lead vocalist Koolant entered The Wailers after making a cameo appearance in the movie Made In Jamaica. His solo song, "Rat Race", was being air-played regularly and things were getting better for the young Rasta musician from St. Thomas, who has already played at East Fest along with many other major stage performances in Jamaica. Morgan Heritage production Keep the Faith, marked his first recording which was included on the band's 2002 offering Family & Friends Vol.3. Till that time, the artist had gained considerable experience from participating in national song competitions while alongside writing his own songs, influenced by the golden era of reggae.
A dedicated fan base have already realized how enthusiastically Koolant incorporates his own personal expression with Marley's tunes, which is altogether refreshing for the young as well as old fans alike. There is still a lot more to The Wailers' current work than just reliving their legendary past. Besides being featured on an upcoming Wailer's album release sparkled with some wonderful celebrity guest appearances, Koolant has performed the lead vocals on two of the band's latest songs; "Shining Star" and "A Step For Mankind", where the former is a rock classic tune about future lovers, while the latter has been created on behalf of WHO and co-stars Duane Stephenson. Both the songs stand in stark comparison with the group's earlier work from Marley's days. They have most certainly and successfully turned a new leaf, which led by the charismatic new vocalist, is already on its way to making history yet again. So go ahead and book some cheap The Wailers tickets and experience the fresh talent of the band's newer version.
