Dakota Valley Symphony orchestra is a nonprofit arts organization that performs numerous times each year on the main stage of Burnsville Performing Arts Center. The symphony orchestra is comprised of Summer Pops orchestra and chorus that consists of 90 members, a symphony orchestra comprising of 60 members, and a mixed chorus made up of about 40 members. The Dakota Symphony Orchestra operates under the direction and leadership of Stephen J. Ramsey, who also happens to be its founder. Each year, Dakota Symphony Orchestra is responsible for bringing some of the best and renowned renditions to its audience members. As the name suggests the show will be offering the renditions of two of the most prolific composers of the history of the Romantic compositions, Edvard Grieg and Giuseppe Verdi. The show will feature a talented Italian pianist, Roberto Plano, who'll be playing the Grieg's famous piano concerto which perfectly portrays the picture of Spirit of Scandinavia. And just to add up to this whole musical experience, the community choirs add up to take it to the next level with their performance of Requiem by none other than Giuseppe Verdi. Born in Bergen, Norway, Edvard Grieg is extremely popular for composing his famous piano concerto in the key of A-minor. Apart from that, he also got fame for composing music for a play called Peer Gynt by Henrik Ibsen. Grieg was born in a musical family, and he took his initial piano lessons from his mother. By the age of six, Grieg already knew how to play piano properly. By the time Grieg was fifteen years of age, one of his family friend, a famous violinist of that time, Ole Bull recognized his talents and asked for his family to send him off to Leipzig Conservatory. After gaining entry into the Conservatory, Grieg truly flourished as a pianist, and in 1861 he gave his very first performance as a concert pianist. From there onwards, Grieg kept on composing the kind of music that was destined to last for ages to come.
Giuseppe Verdi is yet another valued romantic composer of the 19th century. Verdi's works mainly revolved around composing operas, and with the quality of his work, he has went on to be one of the most inspiring and influential composers of the 19th century. Verdi's works are still very popular in different parts of the world, and are still popularly performed in a number of opera houses. Some of his most celebrated works include VA pensiero, La donna e mobile, Grand March and Libiamo ne' lieti calici. Verdi made his debut as a composer when his first opera Oberto was produced in Milan in 1839 by La Scala. His first opera garnered fair amount of popularity at that time, so subsequently Verdi was offered a contract to work on three more operas by La Scala's impresario. Requiem or Messa de Requiem, is one of the most renowned works of Verdi which was composed for an orchestra, double choir and four soloists. The opera was composed to commemorate a celebrated Italian novelist and poet, Alessandro Manzoni.
