Catch the famous French techno artist Gesaffelstein live as he returns to your city by getting the Gesaffelstein tickets in advance. Gesaffelstein is the recording alias of Mike Levy, a producer/composer from Lyon whose refreshing, industrial electronic music is mysterious and dark. He is inspired by new wave and punk and by the work of legendary artists like Kraftwerk. His music creates a blend of current techno with dissonant tunes and cutting rhythms from the likes of Front 242, Nitzer Ebb and DAF. Gesaffelstein is the portmanteau of two names; Einstein, the genius and Gesamkunstwerk, a German word meaning "total art work" used by Dopplereffekt. Levy opted for this name because it's as creative as his own work.
Born in 1985, Mike Levy became interested in techno music at the age of fourteen. He started listening to this genre and was soon buying the music. But the idea of mixing music didn't hit him until the age of sixteen and his interest in production started building up.
Two years later, while he was just eighteen, he moved to Paris. There he got more involved with techno and EMD and started learning about its origins. Although interested in disco, it didn't took him long to fall in love with 80s industrial music and new wave. Upon discovering this music, Levy realized that techno itself is nothing but mere modern incarnation.
He used to listen to Green Velvet and EBM which were his most favorite artists. Along with their music, the songs which majorly influenced Levy's music style were "Computer World" by Kraftwerk, "Geography" by Front 242 and "Join in the Chant" by Nitzer Ebb. To him, music is passion and a hobby. He released his first EP "Variations" in 2010.
Levy released another extended play "Rise of Depravity" on Bromance Records in July 2012. The EP consisted of two tracks; "Depravity" and "Belgium." His debut album titled "Aleph" came out in October 2013 on EMI Music and Parlophone Records. The album contains twelve tracks of which the most notable are "Wall of Memories," "Hate or Glory," "Hellifornia," "Duel" and "Perfection." The album is intense and bold, and deals with the subjects of obsession, rage, paranoia and violence. It was this album that made Kanye West ask him to collaborate with him during the creation of "Yeezus."
He produced the remix version of The Hacker's "Shockwave" which was featured in Grand Theft Auto V. Other releases by the artist include five EPs and a single titled "Pursuit" on EMI Music France.
Levy has worked and produced remixes for a number of artists including Kanye West, Lana Del Ray, ASAP Rocky, Miss Kittin, Agoria, The Hacker, ZZT, Brodinski, Evil Nine, Milano, Tiga and many more. His famous remixes for Kanye West are two tracks from his sixth album "Yeezus" which included songs "Send it Up" and "Black Skinhead." Both of these tracks were produced along with West himself, Daft Punk, Mike Dean and Brodinski.
