Gallagher isn't known as the "father of prop-comedy" for nothing. His hilarious antics involving the famous "sledge-O-matic" on stage have earned this comedic genius a space in the hearts of audiences and fans of comedy nationwide, as well as a spot on Comedy Central's 100 Greatest Stand-ups of All Time poll. He is known for incorporating watermelon smashing into his acts, as well as other fan favorites such as a trampoline couch. His eccentric comedy style also includes wordplay. See why people just can't wait to see Gallagher before he finishes his final tour.. It will truly be the end of an era in comedy.
Gallagher started out with a modest beginning, attending high school and completing his university education. He later found himself practicing standup in front of audiences at comedy stores. During this time he worked as comedian-musician Jim Stafford's road manager. It was when he finally got the chance to appear on 'The Daily Show' that he started to become famous for his laugh-inducing acts. It seemed as if the audience just couldn't get enough of him. This further paved the way for his increasing popularity, although Gallagher did have to bear many hardships to get to where he was. In the end, it was all worth it. Today he is remembered as a hero and a comedic genius owing in part to his ability to make jaws and stomachs hurt from nonstop laughter.
During the '80s and '90s he recorded an amazing fourteen comedy specials, all of which aired on Showtime. Comedy Central also aired them often as reruns. As time went on, however, he recorded fewer and fewer comedy specials until in 2007, he released his last one titled Tropic of Gallagher. Unfortunately he suffered a heart attack during a 2011 tour, but Gallagher did not quit. He persevered for the sake of comedy and his adoring fans, adopting a final resolution. He would go on one last tour before he retired from live shows. If you haven't had the privilege of seeing Gallagher live before, or you would like to see him again now is your chance! Don't miss out this time because he's nearing the final leg of his tour.
