Unsuccessful at both Pride came to music in 1963, with Lovesick Blues. Encouraged by numerous local pros, he moved to Music City but it was not until Chet Atkins at RCA met and signed him in 1966. Debuting with The Snakes Crawl at Night followed by Before I Met You,Charley Pride began to take off. However he gained momentum with Just between You and Me a monster hit of the sixties was what brought him groundbreaking fame and recognition. The unprecedented streak of Top Ten hits spanning the sixties seventies and eighties fifty one of his singles went to the Top Ten charts.
Charley Pride was never mediocre after this Grammy winning. For almost a decade and a half he ruled the world of country delivering all time wonder hits like All I Have to Offer Is Me , Is Anybody Going To San Anitone and award winning trio; She's Too Good to Be True, Kiss an Angel Good Mornin and Night Games. His most memorable performance at the Grand Ole Opry since DeFord Bailey made history as he became an American Black singer to come to the venue after a 1925 showcase. Wonder Could I Live There Anymore, I Can't Believe That You've Stopped Loving Me and I'd Rather Love You were Charley Prides' first experience of a country-pop crossover. Breaking the flow he found solace in gospel and delivered Did You Think to Pray? Winning a Grammy for Best Gospel Performance. I'm Just Me and Kiss an Angel Good Mornin became a blessing in disguise after the gospel album; the songs became the greatest Charley Pride hits ever.
The most successful spell of success experienced by Charley Pride was in the seventies when songs like It's Gonna Take a Little Bit Longer (1972), She's Too Good to Be True (1972), A Shoulder to Cry On (1973), Then Who Am I (1975), She's Just an Old Love Turned Memory(1977) and Where Do I Put Her Memory were everywhere. Clinging to his originality and trademark country-pop style he kept bringing people what they wanted. He also contributed as a music activist by promoting new and upcoming talent. Names such as Ronnie Milsap, Gary Stewart and Kris Kristofferson accredit their success to Pride's support in their initial struggle. The eighties were also kind enough to Pride, letting him remain an country icon with hit numbers Honky Tonk Blues(1980), Mountain of Love (1982), You're So Good When You're Bad (1982) and Night Games (1983). When Charley Pride departed from RCA in 1986 and joined Opryland's 16th Avenue he earned little success with mediocre hits such as Shouldn't It Be Easier Than This. He made a move again to Honest Entertainment at the onset of the nineties and released another album, My 6 Latest & 6 Greatest, in collaboration with artist Travis Tritt and Marty Stuart.
