During the sixties, the British invasion of the music industry was in full swing and it seemed that the US did not have good enough musicians to compete with their counterparts from across the border. But then came along the Beach Boys and their fun and catchy tunes captured the hearts of millions of people worldwide. They managed to encapsulate the very sound of the era, as they introduced innovative new styles of music that appealed to a wide variety of people and helped them sell over a hundred million record copies. But behind all this success was the influence of one man. Considered by many as a musical genius, Brian Wilson changed the very face of the music industry, leaving behind an everlasting legacy that continues to inspire upcoming artists to this day.
The cool breeze on your face
Brian Wilson was the vocalist, keyboardist, bass player and primary songwriter for the world famous band, the Beach Boys. His band members included his two younger brothers Carl and Dennis, as well as their cousin Mike Love. With the band, he earned a reputation of being perhaps one of the greatest producers in the business, and single handedly came up with many new production techniques that are in use even today.
Even though he went through several lean patches in his life, in recent years he has managed to get back to doing what he does best; make music. If you want, you can experience one of his performances for yourself as well. Just book your Brian Wilson tickets and enjoy his show live from the stands.
The warm sand on your toes
Wilson was born in 1942 and it wasn't long before he started to exhibit his great talent for music. He was only a few months old before he began to recognize certain tunes, and even repeat them in some cases, which was highly unusual for his age. Even though he had a bit of a hearing loss in his right ear a few years later, it never affected his love for music and he continued his journey of self discovery, learning to play the accordion and the piano even before he was a teenager. By this time he had also started to sing at church and in school functions, and had even started to dabble with songwriting.
As he grew up, signs of Wilson's musical genius became more apparent, as he started to deconstruct popular songs of the time, so that he could recreate them on his own. He had also started to perform more regularly by the end of high school, mostly with his brothers and a few other friends from school. By the time he enrolled in college in 1961, they had formed a band, 'The Pendletones'. It was around this time that Wilson wrote his first original song, "Surfin" which went on to become a huge hit and got them a recording contract as well.
The waves crashing on the rocks
The band's new recording company decided to change their name to the Beach Boys, keeping in line with their upbeat sound and beach related songs. The band released their first album "Surfin Safari" in 1962 and has since released twenty eight more albums. Eleven of these have made it into the top ten on the Billboard charts while three have been certified platinum and eight have recorded Gold level sales in the US.
After going through some very difficult periods during which he did not contribute much to the band, Wilson decided to work as a solo artist, and released his self titled, debut album in 1988. He has since released ten more albums, of which four have made it into the top thirty of the Billboard charts. These have helped him win two Grammy s, along with an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. He has also received the Kennedy Center Honor and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Recently, Wilson announced his plans to release an official autobiography, which will be called "I Am Brian Wilson" and also reiterated his desire to head out on tour, for his countless fans across the globe. If you want to watch this genius live in concert, then here is the chance you have been looking for. Just get your Brian Wilson tickets and enjoy his hits as he performs them on stage.
