The Hawks are one of the oldest established team in the National Basketball Association (NBA), having been formed in 1946. Before finally settling in Atlanta in 1968, the team underwent many name changes; they were known as the St. Louis Hawks, Milwaukee Hawks, Tri-Cities Blackhawks and originally as the Buffalo Bisons.
