As two of the most competitive teams gear up to meet on the field, tensions run high among both universities. The Arizona Wildcats and The Abilene Christian Wildcats are two hugely celebrated varsity teams that will be playing against each other in this season of college baseball. The National Collegiate Athletic Association, NCAA, serves as the hosting body for this tournament where teams from different colleges and universities compete for sports supremacy. The final rounds of the tournament, also dubbed the College World Series, are a nail-biting face-off between some of the most talented teams around. This season, longtime veterans in the park, The Arizona Wildcats, are all set to face the fast emerging underdog Abilene Christian Wildcats.
Currently members of NCAA's Division I, The Abilene Christian Wildcats (ACW) play in Southland conference.. After the 1973 season, ACW fell out of the first division. However, under the right guidance and the proper training, the 2013 squad has re-emerged in the top circles of the varsity competition.
The Abilene Christian Wildcats are led by head coach, Britt Bonneau. For the past seventeen years, not only has Bonneau molded a strong and cohesive team out of the young ingénues, but he has made them a stronger opponent and a formidable force on the field. Assuming the position of head-coach in 1997, Bonneau has extensively trained, and constantly developed his team to the point where now, they have become a contender for the College World Series. 2003 marked the first time ACW entered the Division II World Series after their win at the regional level. Since then, the wildcats have won one NCAA Division I title and two, Division II World Series.
The Arizona Wildcats (AW) are currently ranked seventh in terms of numbers of wins at the national level. With four Division I national titles and a long list of amazing players, the AW are considered to be a shoo-in for the College World Series this season. Producing all-time superstars like Brian Anderson, Kenny Lofton, Jerry Kindall and Chip Hale, the Wildcats are truly in a league of their own in terms of their skill, determination and their motivation. A part of the Pacific-12 Conference, the Wildcats have won the World Series four times in 1976, 1980, 1986 and 2012. Their Head Coach for the season, Andy Lopez, has made sure that the squad is well prepared and high in morale. With his thirteenth year as head coach underway, Lopez is determined to return the Wildcats to their place at the top.
