Details of Mccaw Hall and the Ticket Luck value
A unique amalgamation of art and architecture, the Marion Oliver McCaw Hall is a brick and mortar exhibition of the collaboration and integration of various seemingly unrelated disciplines such as architecture, landscape, lighting, and theater.
The Hall is more renowned for its architecture in comparison to its function- The Marion Oliver McCaw Hall is a performance hall and opera house located in Seattle, Washington, USA.
The Seattle Opera House, originally created for the World's Fair in 1962 and demolished for the reconstruction of the Marion Oliver McCaw Hall, the Seattle Opera house served as the site for McCaw Hall which was erected within the basic steel structure of the original building.
The blueprints were created by LMN Architects. McCaw Hall is under the ownership and possession of the city of Seattle. Its two major tenants are the Seattle Opera and the Pacific Northwest Ballet.
The building brags of its unique architecture in that the adjacent Kreielsheimer Promenade, designed by Gustafson Guthrie Nichol, is actually a unique public passage that leads into the heart of the Seattle Center Campus.
Additionally, it serves as a thespian rendezvous for patrons and visitors to McCaw Hall. Though it is not apparent from looking at the finished landscape, a portion of the Promenade is a rooftop plaza, built over mechanical rooms below.Perhaps the most attractive feature of art within the Promenade is the water piece that adorns the center of the Promenade.
Entitled Dreaming in Color, the center piece comprises of three thin sheets of water shimmering over sloped paving. The overhead series of glowing, transparent scrims appear to float into the interior Lobby. This exclusive art installation was created by New York light artist Leni Schwendinger.
Gustafson Guthrie Nichol designed the water feature so as to reflect the sky, the metal scrims and lighting effects at night. The building"s interiors were designed by interior designer Deborah Sussman and is a perfect complement to the architecture and lighting. Her exquisite designs further enhance the buildings art appeal.
This theatrical and complex construction demanded a combination of 2 years and 775 workers to bring it to completion. The new Hall underwent nearly ten years of hard work and dedication from the staffs of Seattle Opera, Pacific Northwest Ballet, and Seattle Center.
Between the period extending from December 2001 to June 2003, most of the Skanska construction company"s construction workers were busy turning Seattle Opera"s former home into the new Marion Oliver McCaw Hall.
The dramatic transformation was easily visible from the street and numerous opera and ballet fans, on their way to the temporary Mercer Arts Arena, stood witness to the demolition of the outer shells of the original 1962 and 1927 buildings of the Seattle Opera house were replaced with a luminous glass curtain wall.
The new construction replaced more than 70% of the old building. Behind the portico, the interior underwent drastic changes. A new auditorium, lobbies, backstage, orchestra pit, and cafe were created.
Wiring, plumbing, and HVAC systems?some dating back to 1927?were replaced. A new lecture hall was added, as were additional restrooms, a coat check, Amusements and a gift shop.
The grandeur of the Marion Oliver McCaw Hall at Seattle Center is not only the expertise of LMN Architects. The Marion Oliver McCaw Hall includes a state-of-the-art auditorium capable of holding 2900 people at a time, a Lecture Hall with a capacity of 400, a cafe, a five-story Grand Lobby that boasts luminous serpentine glass, and a 17,800-square-foot public plaza (the Kreielsheimer Promenade) that serves as an entry into McCaw Hall and the Seattle Center Campus.
It is a one-in-all hall that is the home to Pacific Northwest Ballet, Seattle Opera, community festivals and guest performers from around the world, plus weddings, conventions, receptions, meetings and much more.
"The sound in the hall is nothing short of amazing." ? Melinda Bargreen, The Seattle Times, "Opening Knight," August 4, 2003. This simple statement verifies the admirable acoustics offered by the Hall.
The Marion Oliver McCaw Hall strives to produce musically extraordinary, theatrically compelling operas, employing uniformly high-quality casts, dramatically aware conductors, and innovative yet textually concerned directors and designers.
The Hall aims to emphasis the work of Richard Wagner and by achieving national and international recognition for the quality of all of the performances, Marion Oliver McCaw Hall commits itself to advancing the cultural life of the Pacific Northwest.
The new hall opened on time on June 28. On June 29, the front-page news was: "McCaw Hall is a Hit."
