Candlestick Park Tickets

Home to National Football League's San Francisco 49ers, Candlestick Park is home to a number of memorable sporting events. The stadium opened its door for the fans earlier in 1960 as a home ground for San Francisco Giants of the Major League Baseball. Giants played their home games at The Stick but later in 2000 the team moved to Pacific Bell Park. 49ers became Candlestick's tenants in 1971, and they're expected to play their home games here up until the opening of a new stadium that is expected later in 2014. Due to the stadium's close proximity to the San Francisco Bay, unusual playing conditions set in due to strong winds from the Bay. For most part, Candlestick Park's turf remained to be natural bluegrass, but for a brief amount of time artificial turf replaced the natural grass. Since the stadium is situated near the bay area, one of the best known characteristics of the Candlestick Park has always been the damp windy conditions. Conditions like these, during a baseball game, add up a challenge to the outfielders as they have to run about on damp grass with wet shoes. Although measures were taking by the stadium's architect John Bolles, in order to protect the stadium from strong winds, but unfortunately it was all in vain. Later in 1971, when the expansion of the stadium took place for 49ers, the architects thought of fully enclosing the park, but later that idea was dropped and so the stadium still has the same windy conditions like it did before, which just makes the matches a lot more challenging, demanding and so more entertaining.

The Candlestick Park is also known for hosting the last ever concert by The Beatles. The concert took place on August 29, 1966 in which the band performed 11 of their songs. Candlestick also happens to be the only NFL stadium that was originally intended to serve as a baseball park but was later converted to a football stadium. Presently The Candlestick is home to San Francisco 49ers and to provide the team with a bit more state of the art facility a plan was made to construct a new stadium that would accommodate 68,000 fans, at the same place where Candlestick is situated. But the plans were dropped later on as the team decided to have a new stadium built in Santa Clara for them. And so a new stadium will break ground in 2012 at Santa Clara for the 49ers, and after its completion in 2014, Candlestick is expected to be demolished.

49ers played the first game of their current season at the Candlestick Park in their preseason against Vikings; while their first regular season home game was against New Orleans Saints.
