Auburn's first full-length play Skyscraper was performed in 1997, however he received critical as well as commercial success through his 2000 production, Proof. The play won numerous nominations and accolades. Proof was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama as well as Tony Award in the category of 'Best Play.' The MTC has been producing some renowned plays since its inception in 1970. Notable productions at the MTC include 'Ruined,' 'Translations,' 'Doubt,' 'Proof,' and 'Crimes of the Heart.' The Samuel J. Friedman Theatre was earlier known as Biltmore Theatre and was later changed to the current name after MTC acquired the Broadway venue. The Columnists will conduct a world premiere at the multi-purpose facility that will provide the precise requirement for an entertaining opening of the highly anticipated show.
The Columnist is based on the American political drama during the mid-century when columnists are 'kings.' The protagonist Joseph Alsop finds himself among the midst of extreme drama during the changing times in the Washington political scene as the 1960's arise.
