The director of The City of Conversation, Doug Hughes has also directed shows like Outside Mullingar and Doubt, for which he won a Tony Award in 2005. The play is written by the novelist and playwright, Anthony Giardina. He has penned several other famous plays in the past, which include An American Family, Living at Home, The Beach, Scenes from La Vie de Boheme, Custody of the Eye and Black Forest. This new play showcases the time starting from President Carter's end of presidency to the start of Obama's regime. The ensemble includes actors like John Aylward, Beth Dixon, Kristen Bush, Barbara Garrick, Luke Niehaus, Michael Simpson and Kevin O'Rourke. Five-time Tony nominee actress, Jan Maxell will be starring as the political hostess called Hester Ferris. She is known for her remarkable performances in Follies, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Royal Family, Lend Me a Tenor and Coram Boy.

 
In addition to the performing cast, The City of Conversation features sets by John Lee Beatty, lighting by Tyler Micoleau, Catherine Zuber designed the costumes and sound and original music is by Mark Bennett. The play's name has come from the description of Henry James, who once called Washington D.C., "the city of conversation." The story of the show is all about politics and presidency period of various prominent figures, which is put together in a wonderful way.
