Barry Manilow was born as Barry Alan Pincus in Brooklyn, New York in 1943. He graduated from the Eastern District High School in 1961 and then went to Julliard School of Performing Arts for further studies. To pay for his studies he also started working part-time for the Commercial Broadcasting network CBS. One of the directors at CBS asked Manilow to arrange and compose some material for his off Broadway musical titled The Drunkard. Manilow was able to compose an original score for this play which went on to run at the 13^th Street Theater in New York for almost eight years. He started making money by working as a music composer, arranger as well as a pianist. Manilow started getting more work mainly as a writer of jingles for various commercial ads. He went on to compose and perform on a number of commercials such Band Aid and State Farm Insurance. His voice can be heard on the TV commercials of big names like Dr Pepper, Kentucky Fried Chicken and Pepsi and Macdonald.
 
Barry Manilow is a jack of all traits as he is not just a singer and composer but also a conductor, a producer and musician. He signed his first recording contract with Bell Arista Records and released his self-titled debut album. The album was an instant hit and sold over a million copies earning a platinum status. Barry Manilow appeared and performed on Broadway for the first time in the late 70's for his outstanding performance he won a Special Tony Award for his show Barry Manilow on Broadway.
