Lombardi script was written by famous drama writer Eric Simonson and it was primarily based on the famous book WhenPride Still Mattered: A life of Vince Lombardi, this great book was written by acclaimed writer David Maraniss who has also won the prestigious Pulitzer Prize. The initial pre-Broadway tryout was done in Great Barrington, Massachusetts at the very popular Mahaiwe Performing Arts Centre in July 2010 and this tryout was fairly successful. Previews started in September and the official Broadway Premiere of Lombardi was in October 2010 at the renowned Circle in the Square Theater in New York City.

Lombardi's storyline revolves around the famous football coach of Green Bay Packers Vince Lombardi who is trying to lead his team to championship during the season of 1965. A reporter Michael McCormick wants to write a report on the team and tries to interview the team and Lombardi in regards to what makes the team win but the players as well as Lombardi deicide not to share as they are wary of giving information. Michael instead goes to Lombardi's wife who agrees to give information and even reveals that coming to Green Bay Wisconsin was in fact an emotional move by Lombardi as he simply wanted to win. In the flashback it's clearly shown that Lombardi is not happy mainly because he hasn't been promoted and thinks of quitting it.

Lombardi and Michael have a fight in front of the team and storm off, then two other players Paul Hornung and Jim Taylor give Michael a positive feedback regarding Lombardi and as a result Michael sits in the next Green Bay Packers game which they win. After publishing the report he tells Lombardi about quitting the previous job and making a new company, Lombardi congratulates him and also celebrate with his wife and Michael. Michael Realizes that Lombardi is "the most imperfect, perfect man he ever met".

Some main roles are played by Dan Lauria as Vince Lombardi, Judith Light as Marie Lombardi, Keith Nobbs as Michael McCormick, Bill Dawes as Paul Hornung and Chris Sullivan as Jim Taylor. The direction is given by Thomas Kail, produced by Fran Kirmser and Tony Ponturo, sets by David Korins, costumes by Paul Tazewell and lightning by Howell Binkley.

As Lombardi is still running and Packers have won 2011 Super Bowl Championship so it is expected that the play will attract more audience.
