Ready to let go

The show follows the story of a humble café singer named Indigo, who has an amazing talent for singing and acting. Her considerable gifts can't stay hidden for too long, and she is eventually discovered by A.J. Golden, who is the self professed greatest director in the world, as well as a veteran of the entertainment industry. He is instantly taken by the charm and wit of his young talent and vows to make her a world famous star.

He casts her in his latest movie, which eventually goes on to become a huge success, and makes Indigo an overnight sensation. She becomes one of the most sought after actors in the industry and her career seems set for the future. However, around this time A.J informs her of his intentions to marry her and expects her to be grateful for the opportunity. She refuses, since she is already in love with another man and in the end is left with the dilemma of choosing either love or her career.  

The director behind Paramour

Cirque du Soleil has been in business for over thirty years, yet this is the first time that they have attempted to present a show on Broadway. Even though their productions in recent years have featured original stories and soundtracks, they have never attempted to do something like Paramour before. Most of that is down to the creative input of their director Philippe Decouflé, who has directed both on film and stage. He has also dabbled in art direction, dancing and choreography as well.

Born in 1961, Decouflé, learned most of his trade travelling between Lebanon and Morocco, but eventually settled down at the Annie Fratellini's circus school and later at Marcel Marceau's mime school. Here he got interested in dance and after training exclusively with some of the best dancers in his country, he finally founded the "Découflé Company of Arts" in 1983. Over the next few years he would take part in a host of prominent projects, including the closing ceremonies of the 1992 Winter Olympics, the 1997 Cannes Film Festival and the 2007 Rugby Union World Cup. He also directed several music videos for a host of prominent artists around the world. In 2009 he wrote and directed Cirque du Soleil's show called "Iris," which premiered in 2011 and came to an end in 2013. It would prove to be the forerunner for Paramour itself.

Paramour is a Broadway show, but it is a Cirque du Soleil show first and foremost. This means it retains the same acrobatic and death defying stunts that make this entertainment company the most successful one of its kind in the world.
