Based in Toledo, Ohio, the Toledo Walleye are part of the Northern Division in the ECHL’s Eastern Conference. They were the first hockey team from the area. Ever since the 2009 season, they have had an affiliation with the National Hockey League’s Chicago Blackhawks and the Detroit Red Wings. The team’s mascot is called Spike, which was produced officially on the 27th of July, 2009. Spike is a yellow colored walleye wearing a gap toothed smile along with the Walleyes shoes, helmet and white jersey.
The Toledo Walleyes appeared in the play offs for the first time on the 31st of March, 2009. Some of the most popular players in their current lineup include Byron Froese, Willie Coetzee, Tyler Brenner, Aaron Bogosian, Nino Musitelli, Joey Martin, Cody Lampl, Adam Hobson and others. The current captain of the team is Kyle Rogers, who took the post in 2011.
