This upcoming season, NHL is planning yet another exciting Outdoor Series that will focus on the concept of outdoor games the league has lately expanded on dramatically. It will be holding six games, featuring Detroit Red Wings vs. Toronto Maple Leafs, Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Chicago Blackhawks, Ottawa Senators vs. Vancouver Canucks, Anaheim Ducks vs. Los Angeles Kings, New York Rangers vs. New Jersey Devils, and New York Islanders vs. New York Rangers. All thirty teams in the League have waited eagerly for this event, clamoring to be part of NHL's Winter Classic. The latter is the annual event organized by the NHL around or on New Year's Day, and is followed by a series of outdoor games as will be in this next season. Basically the outdoor games of the next season comprise of four Stadium Series games, one Heritage Classic and one Winter Classic. Outdoor Series tickets really present a novel way of watching a hockey game, with its fans screaming for their favorite teams in some of the biggest open stadiums.

The first NHL outdoor game held within the league was a pre-season official matchup held in 1991, and took place in Caesars' Palace parking lot n Las Vegas, featuring New York Rangers and Los Angeles Kings. This first game is often remembered for the number of grasshoppers that jumped onto the ice rink, which was littered with bugs by the second period's end. A crowd of fourteen thousand watched the Kings win from the Rangers. NHL held its earliest regular-season outdoor game in 2003 in Edmonton at the Commonwealth Stadium, where the Montreal Canadiens played against Edmonton Oilers during the Heritage Classic.

The first Winter Classic took place in 2008 at New York's Orchard Park with the presence of more than seventy-one thousand fans, featuring Pittsburgh Penguins versus Buffalo Sabres. These outdoor games have now become very important to the league, which had in fact been waiting to hold many in addition to the regular annual Winter Classic, making them something of a signature event.

It is said that by the end of the 2014 Stadium Series, eighteen out of thirty NHL teams would have played in the Outdoor Series. From among these, eleven teams would have hosted thirteen games and six teams would have participated in various other games. The New York Rangers and Chicago team will have twice hosted an NHL game, while the Rangers and Pittsburgh team would have played in three games each. Montreal, Detroit, Philadelphia and Chicago would have appeared in a couple of games, while all Canadian teams, with the exception of the Winnipegs, would have played an outdoor game at least once. In is interesting to note that by then, every team to have appeared in Stanley Cup finals as of 2006, would have experience playing in an outdoor game, with the sole exception of Carolina.

You know you don't want to miss these Outdoor Series tickets so make sure to grab them while they're still there.
