It included a jaripeo contest and was reviewed by media as far as New Orleans. In 1891, however, such sports were banned but Wild West Shows sprung up and these added steer riding contests. Professional bull riding as it is today began when the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, started in 1936. Each year, this organization holds over a hundred rodeo events in various venues. The Professional Bull Riders was founded in 1994 by the association and is dedicated to bull riding.
