Atlanta Silverbacks
Founded in 1995, Atlanta Silverbacks is an American professional soccer team. Atlanta Silverbacks is a member of the USL First Division - the second tier of the American Soccer Pyramid.
Coached by Jason Smith, the team currently plays at the RE/MAX Greater Atlanta Stadium in Chamblee, Georgia. Their colors are red and black.
The Club was founded as the Atlanta Ruckus in 1995 and was re-named the Silverbacks in 1998, after a change in ownership. The franchise was named after silverback gorilla Willie B., who was a main attraction of Zoo Atlanta until his death.
The development team, Atlanta Silverbacks U23's, plays in the USL Premier Development League. The franchise also has a sister organization called the Atlanta Silverbacks Women who play in the women's USL W-League.
Atlanta Silverbacks Park offers an awe-inspiring team camp experience. Coaches from the Silverbacks will work with each team and will provide them with an analysis at the end of the week.
Also is there a Youth Skills Camp which develops important fundamental skills in young players. The camp focuses on teaching the correct execution of certain skills to prepare players for the next level. Players learn skills in a controlled, technical setting and then incorporate those skills in a game environment.
In addition, Atlanta Silverbacks features a College Fitness Program providing an opportunity for players in college to prepare themselves for pre-season. Collegiates can go into their pre-season ready and get themselves more playing time.
The training sessions are run by coaches from the Mens, Womens, and PDL teams. Players in the program are given opportunities to occasionally train with the PDL or Pro teams.
Jason Smith took over as the franchise's head coach in June of 2005. Before joining the Silverbacks, he served Piedmont College's men's and women's teams as a head-coach.
Since his appointment, Smith has posted a record of 32-33-16. He led Atlanta Silverbacks Clubs to a fourth place finish in league play and USL-1 championship match.
Steve Hutton joined the Silverbacks organization in 2006 as the Director of Camps. This season he, too, is serving as an assistant coach on the men's pro team. He is also assisting to Coach Muccillo with the PDL team.
Before transferring to Virginia Tech, this USSF A Licensed coach, played at Maryville College (TN) for one year. He spent two years as Girls Director at Metro North and nine years as Director of Player Development at AFC Lightning.
Currently he is serving as Girls Director and Tournament Director for the Coweta Cannons.
Alex Pineda-Chacon joined the Atlanta Silverbacks in 2004 to play for its USL First Division team. During his first season with the team, Chacon received All A-League First Team honors.
Afterwards, he began his professional coaching career with the Atlanta Silverbacks as an assistant coach to Jason Smith.
Josepinho, a native of Brazil, began coaching in the U.S. in 2004 with the Forsyth Fusion. In the fall of 2004, he served the Georgia State University Men's team as the Goalkeeper and Fitness Coach.
In 2007, he joined the Atlanta Silverbacks as the goalkeeping coach. Pinho serves Atlanta Silverbacks' USL First Division team. However, he will continue his roles with the Fusion and the Panthers in addition to working with the Silverbacks.
