The KROQ Weenie Roast is an annual musical event hosted in Los Angeles. It has been a tradition since 1993 to hold the event on a Saturday in June, excluding 2005, 2009 and 2010 when it took place in May. It has been held at the Verizon Amphitheatre except in 2000 when it was held at Angel Stadium, California. The event was re-named from KROQ to Weenie Roast y Fiesta. A new trend was introduced into the event with sombreros distributed amongst the people in attendance. The latest show was held on the 18th of May, 2013. It featured the following: The Black keys, who are a duo consisting of Dan Auberbach and Patrick Carney. The two set out their music career themselves when they recorded music in each other’s houses. At times they would confine themselves to basements to make music. They compose mellow but rock genre music. They gained popularity in the early 2000’s when the genre became the point of interest for the younger generation. They have released six albums since 2001.
The popular band: Thirty Seconds to Mars was also included. Jared Leto, Shannon Leto and Tom Milicevic came together in 1998 in Los Angeles to form the band. In 2007, Tom left the band for another one, Angels and Airwaves. He was replaced by Tim Kelleher, who managed the bass guitar. The band is famous world-wide as it has sold over 10 million copies. The band has released four albums, all four being major success. They normally compose emo and progressive metal tracks, but they have not restricted themselves. They were a big favorite and increased the sales for Weenie Roast tickets.
Based in San Diego, California, The Stone Temple Pilots are a band that featured at the Weenie Roast. They comprise of Robert DeLeo, Dean DeLeo, Eric Kretz and Chester Bennington. Their original lead vocalist, Scott Weiland was made to leave the band after which Bennington agreed to join. The band has released six albums and although they seemed have an alternative rock vibe, they later proved that they could do very well with other genres.
Vampire Weekend is another band that performed. It includes Ezra Koening, RostamBatmanglij, Chris Tomson and Chris Baio. The band came together in 2006 in New York City and released their first album “Vampire Weekend” in 2008 which included famous singles such as “A-Punk”, “Cape Cod KwassaKwassa”. Of Monsters and men is a relatively new band, being formed in 2010. They are a six man band. They focus on indie music. They first gained recognition after winning a battle of the bands competition in Iceland, where the band was formed. Their first album; “My Head Is an Animal” was a huge success in Iceland. It peaked at no.1in Australia, the UK, the United States of America, where the band’s success was evident in the Alternative charts. It also made a mark in Canada. One of the album’s single, “Little Talks was a major success, not just in Iceland, but in Europe where it ranged in the top ten.
As locals of Arizona, the Jimmy Eat World is a rock band, which was formed in the early nineties. It includes Jim Adkins, Tom Linton, Rick Burch and Zach Lind. The success of the band came in 2001, when they decided to compose their album, Bleed American. Its singles were the main cause of the fame as they soon topped charts. They topped the Hot Modern Tracks chart by remaining in the 20’s. In 2004, they released another album which included the hit single “Pain” which topped the charts at no.1 for Modern Rock. They had officially sold enough albums for them to be certified gold, and later platinum. This was staggering for the four piece band. Their greatest success was yet to come as the album “Chase This Light” was a giant success, proving to be the band’s greatest achievement by topping at no.5 at the Billboard charts.
