Timeflies is made up of musicians, Cal Shapiro and Rob Resnick. Formed in 2010, Shapiro is the lead vocalist while Resnick produces the music. Shapiro who is from New York and Resnick, who is from New Jersey, became acquainted in Boston and decided to make music together. They got their big break while performing locally at bars and music venues and relocated to Manhattan where they rehearsed and recorded. In August, 2011 the two released an application on the Apple App Store. This app was created by developers Graham Tomlinson and Matthew Hamilton. After a month, Timeflies was seen releasing their debut album titled "The Scotch Tape". This album landed on number two of the iTunes Pop Chart and on the eighth place of the iTunes Chart, within twenty four hours when it was first made public. Vanity Fair called them "musical masterminds".

After the success of the record, Timeflies started performing at musical venues and colleges on a regular basis. They also started uploading and releasing new music on their YouTube channel every Tuesday. A year later in November, 2012, Timeflies came forth with their debut EP named "One Night".  This too proved to be a success as it made its way to the very top of the iTunes Pop Chart. If this wasn't enough, the EP landed on number two of the iTunes Chart as well. It was also able to land on the prestigious Billboard 200 Chart, peaking at number twenty nine. One song that was able to garner massive success was "Swoon" that was placed amongst the top 50 songs on the Billboard Rap Digital Songs. In 2013 US Billboard called them one of the artists to watch out for.

With the advent of 2013, Timeflies announced that it had created its own record label named "Forty8Fifty". This company was created in partnership with Island Def Jam Music Group. The duo also announced that its next full length studio album will be released via this record label. In April, 2013, the two artists released their debut single from the upcoming album to digital retailers. The single was titled "I Choose You" and was made available via Island Def Jam Music Group in May, 2013. This song was also remixed by DJ, Fedde Le Grand and made available on the artist's Soundcloud page. Three months after the release of their single, Timeflies was invited to perform at the Lollapalooza Music Festival, held in Chicago. Due to these successes, the duo received nomination for a Popdust Award in 2013 from the category of "Next Pop Superstar of 2013".

As a producer, Rob Resnick started playing with local bands and artists since college. He often names Pretty Lights, Porter Robinson, JR Rotem and Benny Blanco, as being his main inspirations. Cal Shapiro who majored in music from Tufts University narrates that he fell in love with singing and performing while in his sophomore year. His musical influences include Janis Joplin, Robert Johnson, Big L and Muddy Waters. Shapiro is also popular for his love for scotch, stating that this inspired him to name the debut release "The Scotch Tape". Ever since the group's inception, the two artists have collaborated with musicians such as Mac Miller, Sammy Adams, the Stik Kites and the Ride.
