Theater fans have an upcoming delight coming their way, as the 1996 play, This Is Our Youth, by Kenneth Lonegran, is scheduled to be staged at the Cort Theater. After almost two decades since its premier in New York City, the production is still a fan favorite. This is Our Youth has been produced several times since its debut in 1996, including a 2012 production in Sydney which took the same cast as the forthcoming show. The upcoming production at the Cort Theater features Kieran Culkin and Michael Cera starring opposite Tavi Gevinson. The play is directed by the Tony Award winning director of 'Of Mice and Men', Anna D. Shapiro. The producer for the show is Scott Rudin, who has immensely successful projects like 'The Book of Mormon' and 'A Raisin in the Sun' under his resume. The music is provided by the Grammy Award winner Rostam Batmanglij from the band 'Vampire Weekend'.

This Is Our Youth brings to light a raw portrait of adolescence clashing with adulthood amidst good opportunities and bad decisions. According to the renowned critic, Peter Marks, the play leaves an indelible impression and shows life in its reality instead of cushioning youthful travails with plastic wrap.

The play is based in an eighties setting and covers forty-eight hours from the lives of three young, affluent and disaffected college-age kids. One of the characters is the dejected, nineteen year old Warren, played by Michael Cera, who has stolen fifteen thousand dollars from his abusive, business tycoon after. Warren gets kicked out of home and he stays at his friend's apartment. That friend is named Dennis, played by Kieran Culkin, who is a drug dealer and who takes the opportunity of using Warren's money to buy some cocaine, for use and selling on further.

Warren and Dennis are visited by the anxious and astute Jessica, played by Tavi Gevinson. She is a fashion student and who has been brought-up in a promising and hopeful environment. Her insight helps the two boys answer their own confusions about life. Warren yearns for Jessica and tries to lure her using his new found riches. The production beautifully portrays the struggles these youths have to face while they attempt to reconcile their own views with those of their parents'.

This Is Our Youth is witty, agonizing and compassionate. It shows the real problems faced by many young people when they go out into the world on their own. Like many adolescents, Warren, Dennis and Jessica are only armed with the techniques and ideas that they have developed as teenagers, and which are more sophisticated than their parents can think but much less effective and useful then they themselves believe.
