The Tenderloins is an American comedy group assembled by four high school buddies, who have taken on the mission of spreading the laughter throughout the globe. These comedians have not only improved upon the concept of sketch comedy, but have also become famous by using different channels for their comedy performances. The Tenderloins comedy troupe was created originally in 1999 by the four high school buddies; Joseph Anthony “Joe” Gatto, James “Murr” Murray, Mike Boccio and Salvatore Anthony Edward “Sal” Vulcano. This group of comedians received proper training in sketch comedy from Del Close and Charna Halpern, before starting their professional careers in 2000.
The Tenderloins initially performed live in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. They participated in the San Francisco Sketch Comedy Festival and the Miami Festival. The Tenderloins also started releasing filmed performances on various popular websites including YouTube, Metacafe and MySpace. These online videos resulted in a sudden increase in their fan base. The Tenderloins won $100,000 in prize money for their “Tine Thugs” sketch, when they participated in NBC's comedy competition, “It's Your Show” in 2007.
Joe, Murr, Boccio and Sal belonged to different backgrounds and careers but they chose to enter the comedy industry. Mike Boccio was later replaced by Brian Michael “Q” Quinn, who along with the remaining three comedians, rose to fame after Tenderloins continuous success.
The Tenderloins starred in the series “Impractical Jokers” aired by truTV and soon became its executive producers. This comedy show became an immediate success and its ratings were remarkable. The first season of “Impractical Jokers” ended with thirty two million loyal viewers, which encouraged the producers to enhance the number of seasons planned for the show. “Impractical Jokers” is currently in its fourth season. The comedy series has been rated 8.9 out of 10 on IMDb and 8.8 out of 10 on TV.com. The Tenderloins have also currently been working on a spin off series “Jokers' Wild” after the unexpected success of the former reality show.
The Tenderloins have grown famous worldwide because of their unique pranks and comedy sketches. They thrive to entertain themselves, while entertaining the public. What keeps this comedy group and their comedy reality show different from others is that their pranks are unplanned and go with the flow. The Tenderloins jokes and pranks have even been praised on The New York Times and The Daily Page. Linda Stasi of The New York Post was witnessed stating that “Impractical Jokers” was probably the most hilarious show she had ever seen. Neil Genzlinger wrote about the Tenderloins in The New York Times, mentioning that the occasional integrity of this group is the reason why everyone loves them.
The Tenderloins have led a successful career as humorists and pranksters in a short period. Their practical reality show “Impractical Jokers” has remained their biggest accomplishment so far. The series successfully garnered more than a million views during its premier on December 15, 2011.
Their comedy videos have some of the highest views on YouTube and they were ranked first out of more than a million comedian accounts on MySpace. The Tenderloins have also done pilots with A&E, TBS, CMT and VH1. They have also had their own independent sitcom pilot that became an official New York Television Festival selection.
