The Chieftains tickets bring legendary international folk stars for a night of great music and fun! The Chieftains are one of the most authentic traditional Irish folk bands of our times. The band has Paddy Moloney, Michael Tubridy, Peador Mercier, Ronnie McShane ,Kevin Conneff, Derek Bell, Sean PottsDavid Fallon, Matt Molloy, Peadar Mercier, Martin Fay and Seán Ó Riada in the lineup.
In the seventies when mainstream music trends were hard rock and heavy metal. Whereas in the eightiest the music was all Pop and cool. In these times The Chieftains rose as one of the most distinct mainstream sounds. The group's sound was nothing like the dominant muic of the time, but sure had a wonderful appeal. Their music which was almost instrumental based on front man Paddy Moloney's pipes stirred waves. They played everything from Celtic, Contemporary Celtic, Irish and Traditional Celtic to Traditional Irish, British Folk and International Folk. The versatility of their music and appeal of their sound made the group an international phenomenon. They formally launched themselves in 1963 and became the most successful international folk band of the seventies and eighties.
This group came together in 1963 as an ensemble of semi-professional folk musicians from all over Ireland. Before the band was formed Irish folk songs were all about listening to names like Irish Rovers, Tommy Makem, Mary O'Hara and The Clancy Brothers. Ceoltoiri Chualann was a group which recreated the sound and meaning of traditional Irish music. Ceoltoiri Chualann was the king of instrumental music that refined Irish music. The group had nothing like modern inflections or tempos in their music. Paddy Moloney was a member of Ceoltoiri Chualann who left the group and formed the Chieftains.
The group's earliest studio recordings had Moloney's pipes, composer Sean Potts' tin whistle, fiddler Martin Fay's unwinding solos, David Fallon playing the bodhran and Mick Tubridy 's flute/ concertina. The earliest works showed that the band had a very original stance in creating music. They were bound to enjoy success as their music was spellbinding; local audiences and later audiences in Europe got hooked the group's music in no time. The Chieftains became a hot favorite group of part-time semi-professional musicians. The group did not decide to formally come to mainstream music until the seventies.
The Chieftains-1 was the group's debut album released in 1965; three more albums followed as a part of this series. All these were released under the label Claddagh. These albums got fame in the UK and US (Island Records released these albums there). Many Irish-American listeners started to discover the group and called them a ” great connection to their roots”. In the seventies when the American youth was crazy about rock, the group was an unusually big hit. It soon extended its lineup; Ronnie McShane and Derek Bell to fill up gaps in their music. Both the instrumentalist was experienced additions to the band. They brought elegance to the group's music with their exceptional play of percussion, harp, oboe and timpani.
The 1975 movie Barry Lyndon had the song Women of Ireland on its soundtrack; this song was the first commercial success. The Chieftains became hot in America, and they were in great demand in almost every state. From The Chieftains-5 onwards the group was recording and releasing an album every year. Bonaparte's Retreat, Chieftains Live, The Chieftains-7, 8, 9 and 10 were all released under Island Records. The group became very active in collaborating with other acts Concert Orchestra (1983), The Chieftains in China (1985), In Ireland (1987) with James Galway, Irish Heartbeat (1988) with Irish folk blues singer Van Morrison and Over the Sea to Skye: the Celtic Connection (1990) with James Galway were all awe inspiring and creative to the core.
The group kept its image and music fresh every time it released a song or an album. They even travelled to Spain to find inspiration for their music. For almost two decades the band composed and played some of the finest international folk and Contemporary Celtic music. They toured actively from the start of the new millennium; Live in Dublin became one of their biggest concert shows in their career. In 2012 the group celebrated fifty years of their music and The Chieftains tickets for this concert sold out like hot cakes.
This season's The Chieftains tickets are hotter than ever. The group promised to return with a facelift and every fan wants to see what the new face of this legendary band has to offer. Grab you tickets to be a part of this show. Enjoy!
