Tereu Tereu
While the D.C. indie-rock scene is booming fully with many successful rock acts, there is always need for more as in case of music the more the merrier fits in to the tee.
The latest addition in the galaxy of the rock stars is the band that has showed great promise and strength from their very first act. This amazing band is Tereu Tereu that produces music as interesting as its name. Read on to know more about the band.
Formed as a local band in Fredericksburg, VA with some members from The University of Mary Washington; the band has made its mark with just one album under their belt. The current line up of the band includes singer and guitarist Ryan Little, bassist Adam Bray, drummer Ross Marshall and Matt Bradshaw as keyboardist, vocalist and trumpet player.
The formation process of the band started somewhere around 2005 when Ryan started working on some songs and decided to form a band. He met Ross through a mutual friend and the two started playing together. They did a couple of shows together and then added Adam who was previously in a local band.
The ensemble was completed by September of 2006 when Matt joined in the band. He earlier used to be a special guest on a song or two but later became an indispensable and major component of the band as he loved the sound they produced together as much as everyone else loved him.
Besides Tereu Tereu, all the members of the band are also actively involved in various music ensembles and other jobs. Matt and Ross are members of college jazz bands, Adam organizes local all ages shows on the weekends while Ryan works at a compliance call center.
They all share a passion for music and this passion drives them to make music they all make quite effectively. The band has taken influence from various DC bands like Fugazi and Q and not U with an admiration of 60s pop records.
Initially, the band started with small gigs at different place through which they caught the attention of many with their interesting sound and style. After receiving accolades for their work, they decided to release an album to embark their official journey in the world of music.
Released in 2007, the EP is titled Feline Ambition that was recorded by Jason Caddell and mixed by Devon Ocampo of Faraquet. The album also featured Travis Morrison on backup vocals. Considering the fact that it was their very first effort, the band showed great maturity and grip on their sound.
The band's debut EP, Feline Ambition is a clear proof of their talent and potential. The album showed impressive innovation and relied more on quality than quantity. What really made them known was the first track Furwinked. This Indie rock song was highly praised for the beautiful vocals and captivating sound. Other songs were also appreciated and in no time the band gained the status of Fredericksburgs most exciting local band.
The members of Tereu Tereu maintain that they all admire innovation and sonic exploration. This is reflected in their sound as well as explored various techniques in their first album. Without restricting itself to simple guitar-bass-drum noisiness, it tried layering in keyboard, trumpet, vibraphone and glockenspiel that is forte of some of Washington's more complex post-punk outfits. The talented quartet proved that they are committed to their music and loyal to their art.
Although impeccable in their only studio effort, what really made Tereu Tereu a known name in music circles is their eccentric and catchy live shows. With charming melody, appealing brevity of the performance, catchy melodies, bouncing rhythm, and effective stage presence; the talented boys from Tereu Tereu can make a hell of a live show, a hell you will love to inhabit.
The awesome foursome has shared the stage with bands like Birdmonster, Paul Michel and Damiera. They have played with Georgie James and opened for Jukebox The Ghost. They also played two nights in a row with Ra Ra Riot last besides giving a fabulous opening act for Maritime. The response from all their live acts was unanimous and the band got thumps up form the fans and the critics alike.
Tereu Tereu has all the elements that are needed in a well-rounded rock outfit. They have the right kind of sound and right kind of attitude that makes them one of the most entertaining Fredericksburg band still active.
Currently, the band is working on their new album and also plans to play several regional and national concerts. This means that they are all over the place.
