Robert Peter "Robbie" Williams was born on February 13th of the year 1974 in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, United Kingdom. He is an award winning British pop rock singer. He began his musical career as part of the band called Take That. After he left this group, he went on towards a solo career and released Angels, the song that gave him his first success. His first album was titled Life Thru A Lens. His next album, I've Been Expecting You was released in October of 1998. It contained the hit song No Regrets which was dedicated to his former colleagues from Take That.
In the year 1999, Robbie Williams tried to break into the American market by publishing a collection of his two previous albums called The Ego Has Landed. The first single released was Millenium which reached number seventy two on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and the 2nd was Angels which reached the number forty one. The album reached number sixty three and was certified gold. Yet Williams never managed to become a star in the United States. In Canada, Williams fared better because the song Millenium, which was also released in that country, reached the Top 10 (No. 9). Angels also managed some success but to a lesser extent, managing to get into Top 20. The album earned a gold record for its sales, getting to be among the twenty best sellers and achieving a remarkable success.
Shortly afterward, Robbie Williams recorded Sing When You're Winning which went on to become a big success in several countries. The album also featured the singles Supreme, I Will Survive, Let Love Be Your Energy and The Road To Mandalay. A year later, he recorded Escapology, his most successful album. It went on to be placed on the number one spot in several countries. It also included some of his most popular songs such as Feel and Come Undone. In 2003, Robbie Williams released Live at Knebworth. This broke two Guinness World Records. The following year, he was inducted into the U.K. Hall of Fame after being voted as the greatest artist of the 1990s.
In the year 2006, he launched Rudebox which also became a big hit. In November of 2009 he returned after a long hiatus with Reality Killed The Video Star. This long-awaited album was produced by the renowned producer Trevor Horn. It marked the singer's return after a three year absence. The album had very good review and it became the first album of Williams that reached number one in Britain although the album was # 1 in 6 countries and reached the Top 10 in a further sixteen.
However it is considered by many critics as a return to the top of the singer and his definitive breakthrough as the new king of pop, beating his nearest rival Justin Timberlake. He has been creating quality music and releasing countless hit songs and albums ever since. His worldwide sales reach more than 70 million which places him among the best selling artists worldwide. He has managed to bag several awards including seventeen Brit awards, two Grammy Awards, three Ivor Novello, five MTV Europe Music Awards, three Guiness World Records and many more as well. His music generally revolves around the genres of neoswing, glam rock, dance pop, soft rock, pop and pop rock.
