Romano is known distinctly for his character in the long-running CBS sitcom "Everybody Loves Raymond".
His other acting credits include high-flying Welcome to Mooseport and outstanding Ice Age and Ice Age: The Meltdown. Ray Romano is an avid New York Mets Fan, and also competed in the 2008 World Series of Poker.
Ray Romano was born to a financially sound family in Queens, New York. His father was an engineer and realtor, while his mother was a piano teacher. Romano was raised in the Queens neighborhood of Forest Hills where he attended elementary and middle school at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs.
He was in the same high school class as Fran Drescher, who signed Romano for his sitcom, The Nanny. Romano graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1975 and also briefly attended Queens College in Flushing, New York. He majored in accounting, but quit going to the college to break into entertainment industry.
Ray Romano started off his career in industry of comedy with an outlet called Comedy Central. Comedy Central signed him for voicing for the show called Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist. Romano also contested on Star Search in the stand-up comedy category, but the show that broke him to mainstream was Everybody Loves Raymond.
He became the star of this show and featured a cast and format more suitable to his brand of humor. Romano with his comedian friend Kevin James made appearances in the salesman comedy series called Grilled. The series expanded his fan-base and earned him more recognition as a comedian.
The critical acclaim of Ray Romano further increased when a 2000 episode of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" starred him. Romano walked away winning US$125,000 for the NYPD's DARE Unit. In 2001, acknowledging his works in the industry of comedy, Ray Romano was named one of E!"s top twenty entertainers of 2001.
In 2003, he was made an appearance as a special guest star on the seventh "Million Dollar Spectacular" special of the long-running CBS series called "The Price Is Right". The following year made Romano the highest paid television actor for his role of Raymond on Everybody Loves Raymond.
Ray Romano was also the subject of the documentary film entitled 95 MILES TO GO. The film was released in April 2006 by ThinkFILM, and documented Romano"s road-trip for a series of gigs across the South.
In August of the same year, he was interviewed at UCLA by fellow stand-up veteran, David Steinberg. David interviewed Romano for an episode of his "Sit Down Comedy with David Steinberg".
In the series titled "Pilot", Ray and Debra's twin boys were named after Romano's real twin sons, Gregory and Matthew. Ray"s on-screen daughter for Everybody Loves Raymond was named after his real-life daughter, Alexandra "Ally" Romano, who has made several appearances on the same show as Molly.
