King Tut Exhibit
'Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs' is the renowned exhibition that explores the figures who guided ancient Egypt more than 3,000 years ago.
Drawing 5 million visitors worldwide, the exhibition returns to the United States in a three-city encore tour opening at the Dallas Museum of Art, October 3, 2008-May 17, 2009.
King Tut Exhibition focuses mainly on the 18th Dynasty, a 100-year period when Egypt was at the height of its power and the 'golden age' of Egyptian artistry.
The extensive array of over 130 extraordinary artifacts from the tomb of Tutankhamun and other ancient Egyptian sites showcases 50 of Tutankhamen's burial objects.
The exhibition also showcases Tutankhamen's royal diadem and one of the four gold and precious stone inlaid canopic coffinettes that contained his mummified internal organs.
The exhibition has been presented at the Los Angeles Country Museum of Contemporary Art, the Field Museum in Chicago, the Fort Lauderdale Museum of Art, and The Franklin in Philadelphia.
Experience the World of King Tut with a brand new exhibition that will make its North American debut in Atlanta on November 15, 2008. King Tut Exhibit will continue onto Indianapolis in June of 2009. This King Tut Exhibition is no small event, and one not to be missed.
The event is being organized by National Geographic, AEG Exhibitions and Arts and Exhibitions International, with cooperation from the Supreme Council of Antiquities of Egypt.
The Northern Trust Corporation has entered into an agreement with AEG to become the National Sponsor of King Tut Exhibit. Los Angeles based AEG is one of the leading sports and entertainment presenters in the world as well as a wholly owned subsidiary of the Anschutz Corporation.
Curator David Silverman, the Eckley B. Coxe Jr. professor of Egyptology and curator-in-charge, Egyptian Section, University of Pennsylvania Museum together organized the layout, flow and scholarly conception of the show.
The exhibition also will include objects from tombs of several non-royal individuals. These stone, faience and wooden pieces from burials before Tut's reign will give visitors a sense of what the lost burials of other royalty and commoners may have been like.
All of the treasures in the exhibit are between 3,300 and 3,500 years old and it is expected to generate about one million people to attend the show.
The Tut Exhibit began on June 16th, 2005 and ran through November 15th, 2005 at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. That first tour of King Tut's artifacts, which was only half the size of this the new one, was widely considered to be the first museum mega-event.
That event drew eight million visitors nationwide. Since then, such museum road shows have become commonplace and an Canapic chest made of alabaster with gilded dado.
The exhibition put on display artifacts left in the basement of the Egyptian Antiquities Museum in Cairo and Tutankhamun's royal diadem encircling the head of the king's mummified body that he likely wore while living.
