Born in 1982, John Mulaney grew up in Chicago, Illinois. He attended St. Ignatius College Prep and then enrolled into Georgetown University where he took on English Literature as his major. Mulaney got his big break in 2004 when he joined NBC’s Saturday Night Live as a writer. Since then the comedian has added several comedic compositions to his repertory. Mulaney was the writer of ninety Saturday Night Live episodes from 2008 to 2013. Some of these include shows where celebrities such as Kanye West, Ben Affleck, Justin Timberlake, Adam Levine, Christina Applegate, Zach Galifianakis, Anne Hathaway, Bradley Cooper, Neil Patrick Harris, Dwayne Johnson, Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Blake Lively and Ashton Kutcher were invited. Apart from this Mulaney also served as a writer for Saturday Night Live: Weekend Update Thursday from 2008 to 2012. He wrote a total of seven episodes. Apart from working with NBC, the comedian has also provided his skills for numerous televisions series and movies.
A few of the television movies include The John Mulaney Show of 2013, John Mulaney: New in Town of 2012, Saturday Night Live: Just Shorts of 2009 and Mike Birbiglia’s Secret Public Journal of 2008. He has also written for television series namely I Love the 30’s, Atom TV, the Oh, Hello Show, Important Things with Demetri Martin, the Very Funny Show, Funny as Hell and Cavalcade of Personalities. Mulaney also has countless acting credits to his name. He played the role of George St. Geegland in Kroll Show, Tony in Ugly Americans, Dylan in Mayne Street, Dory Van Hoorn in Jump Cuts and World’s worst bartender in Balls of Steel. If all this wasn’t enough, John Mulaney has been invited to make guest appearances in Live at Gotham, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Comedy Central Presents, The Bob & Tom Show, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and Xpose, to name a few. Currently John Mulaney pairs up with comedian Bill Hader to write comedic sketches for Stefon, a factious character that they created.
