Hai Kyung Suh is probably one of the best female piano players in the country today. She is the first Korean female pianist to gain worldwide fame among critics as well as fans. Hai Kyun Suh is a Korean native. She started taking interest in music at a very young age. By the time she was eight years old, Suh was already taking piano lessons. At this age she was able to give a live performance with Seoul National Symphony Orchestra by playing a Mozart concerto. When she was eleven, Suh was able to win the Presidential Medal of the Korean Government. She is credited with being the first ever Korean female pianist who gained worldwide fame and established an international career in this field. After her initial studies in Korea she left for the US to continue her music education. She ended up in New York and got the privilege of learning under the guidance of acclaimed musician/piano players like Sascha Gorodnitzki at The Julliard School of Music and Nadia Reisenberg at Mannes Precollege. She also received her bachelor's degree in music from Julliard School. Suh teaches piano at the Kyung Hee University in Seoul, Korea. When she isn't touring, she resides in New York with her husband and kids.
Hai Kyun Suh is primarily a solo pianist and she has gained international recognition for this. During her career Suh has performed with some of the world's best orchestras like Shanghai Philharmonic, St. Petersburg Academic Symphony Orchestra, Korean Broadcasting System Philharmonic, Nagoya Philharmonic, Moscow State Symphony, Columbia National Symphony Orchestra, Slovak Radio Symphony, State Symphony Kapella of Russia, Tokyo National Symphony and Pittsburgh Symphony. Suh has also toured various countries as a recitalist including England, China, Japan, Germany, USA and Australia. She has worked with acclaimed conductors and music directors across the globe such as Alaxander Dimitiev, Sung Kwak, Zendek Macal, Riccardo Muti, Charles Dutoit, Paolo Olmi, Ivan Fischer and Pavel Kogan.
Hai Kyung Suh has performed the works of almost all the classical music masters, some of her works are Beethoven Concerto no.3 in C minor, Brahms Concerto No.1 in D minor, Chopin Concerto No.1 in E minor, Gershwin Rhapsody in Blue, Mozart Concerto No.14 in A major, Mozart Concerto No.24 in C minor, Rachmaninov Concerto No.4 in G minor, Rachmaninov Concerto No.3 in D minor and Tchaikovsky Concerto No.1 in B flat minor. She has released a number of studio albums like The Complete Rachmaninov Piano Concertos, Jewels for Piano, Hai-Kyun Suh plays Beethoven, Tchaikovsky Complete Works for Piano & Orchestra and Hai-Kyung Suh Piano. Some famous tabloids in the US have praised the work of Suh. The New York Times wrote that "Suh gives Propulsive and exciting performances, built block by sonic block with the structural command of a musical architect". Pittsburgh Post-Gazette wrote that "her imperious romantic playing was on an impressively large scale, she is a genuine fire-breather".
