Dion brings a legacy of both time and place in his musical productions. He has been resonating generations by his Rock ‘n’ Roll music. Coming from the streets of Bronx in New York, Dion is a versatile singer and extraordinary poet. He started his music career quite early in time, staging performances in Bronx bars and street corners.
Dion, a street poet and an extraordinarily versatile singer is heavily influenced by Hank Williams, a country singer and songwriter, apart from doo-wop, blues, R & B and Rock ’n’ Roll. Hank Williams sparked the love for music in Dion and by the age of twelve Dion had the huge collection of Williams songs and could sing many of his singles. Dion’s singing capacity grew with time while performing at Cartona Avenue with local singers bringing the local rockers together to establish Dion & the Belmounts in the very heart of Bronx.
In no time, Dion & the Belmonts had their singles hopping on top of the charts. Their first hit was “I wonder why?,” in addition to their contributions towards exciting Doo Wop music in American culture.”A Teenager In Love” and “Where or When” earned them the high place in eyes of music lovers though their work in Rock ‘n’ Roll highlighted their achievements in the industry. Since the days of A Teenager in Love Dion has been making headlines for bringing life to the dance floors where ever he and his ensemble travels. He was a sensation when he was part of the Belmonts and rocked the world when he started performing solo in 1960s. Making till date the quintessential rock classics one after another, Dion has attained the enlightenment many others in music field only imagine to attain. From the “Runaround Sue” to Lovers who Wander” and “Wanderer”, “Ruby Bay”, “Donna the Prima Donna” are the singles which make him a living legend.
He has the reputation of a brilliant and strong song writer come performer. His single “Abraham, Martin and John” was followed by eight LP’s for Warner Brothers. Nomination for a Grammys came after the release of series of his gospel albums, which reflected his deep faith in God. His performance at Radio City shows embarked the new era of legacy, celebrating Dion’s past and the future. Dion started appearing in fundraisers for Homeless medical reliefalong with other superstars as Bruce Sprinsteen, Paul Simon and Lou Reed, all of who pay tributes to Dion for his remarkable work and style in originating Bronx blues.
After returning to Catholicism, Dion has released various albums with many rock artists. His album Déjà Nu covers Bruse Springsteen who has been ardent follower of Dion. Both performed “If I Should Fall Behind” together onstage in Miami. Later Dion joined Scott Kempner from the Del-Lords and Mike Mesaros from The Smithereens in a band called “little Kings”. Band performed locally and lived for a very short while. Dion continued his journey as a performer, inducting “Runaround Sue” into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
His albums are a good collection to feel the rock ‘n’ Roll grow in a distinctive style. This would have not been possible, if the legendary artist Dion would not have been born into the music industry.
