It didn’t take the Rolling Stone magazine long to discover immense talent in Ansari and he was declared “Hot Standup” in the magazine’s annual “Hot List” in 2005. A year later he achieved another milestone by winning HBO’s Jury Award for “Best Standup” at the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen. As Aziz Ansari had started to make a name for him in the competitive world of stand-up comedy, he slowly started to venture into short films. To this end, he teamed up with talented comedians like Paul Scheer and Rob Huebel and made movies like Illusionators and Shutterbugs. These movies were directed by Jason Woliner and were such big success that the trio got immediately signed by MTV for a sketch series. This show became critically acclaimed and ran for two seasons, when the trio decided to quit, despite approval of a third season by MTV.
 
Next came Parks and Recreation, which to date has been Ansari’s best known television role. He plays Tom Haverford, a government employee. He has been praised by the critics for his role as Yahoo! TV declared him as number one on its “TV MVPS” list. TV Guide called him a “Scene Stealer”, and Entertainment Weekly declared him 2009s “Breakout TV Stars”. Moreover, Ansari has proven his credentials as one of the brightest stars in Scrubs, and HBO’s Flight of the Conchords, in which he played xenophobic fruit seller who was always irritated at the fact that he couldn’t tell a difference between a New Zealander and Australian.
