Most well known for his manly raspy vocals, Ray Lamontagne is acclaimed to host shows and gigs where he transforms the environment into a dream wonderland of soothing sweet folk songs. Born in 1973, Ray did not have the ideal childhood, with issues within the family forcing him and his mother to travel quite often. Initially working at a shoe factory after graduating, Ray got the inspiration to make music from Stephen Stills, another folk singer. This sudden move to singing and songwriting was spontaneous and only the most natural thing that came in Ray's life. He started performing live in 1999 at various concerts and gigs. After ample experience and on stage this folk music star came up with his first solo compilation. This album, which is titled Trouble, was re-edited and released in 2004. Trouble sold over 250,000 copies in the U.S. and over 500,000 copies worldwide. But this was just the beginning to what would be one of the most successful careers in folk history.
2006 saw Ray's second coming, titled Till the Sun Turns Black. This album was a shift towards more mature music compositions with songs like the self titled track and Three More Days. The music of Ray LaMontagne and the Pariah Dogs was featured in TV series ER and Bones and also contributed to the Original Motion Picture Soundtracks of 27 Dresses and Away from Her. It is this time when the talent in Ray's voice and music genius was fully recognized by the masses and the fan base massively increased. His abilities to be a successful live act were also acknowledged with the Live from Abbey Road album that was also released in 2006.Continuing with the success came the third album in 2008, titled Gossip in the Grain. This album achieved an even bigger success and debut at a whopping number 3 spot on the Billboards. Songs like I Still Care for You and A Falling Through were the biggest hits and the album on a whole established Ray as a legend in his own rite. Tracks from this album were also used in the hit series House.
God Willin' & the Creek Don't Rise is the latest album by Ray LaMontagne and the Pariah Dogs. This fourth album was released in August, 2010 and is a more experimental approach to folk blues, targeting a much wider crowd of music lovers. This is the first collaboration with other talented artists in a form of a band by Ray. He was nominated for three Grammys, the most prestigious music award, in December, 2010 and also won for the Best Contemporary Folk Album. His singing from the gut instead of the nose is what makes Ray such a unique talent that is admired by thousands the world over.
