In 1977, Rolling Stone named Frampton the "Artist of the Year". Born in 1950, Peter Frampton found interest in music at the age of twelve. From the start, his choice of instrument was the guitar. Today, this yester-days Artist of the Year is making a comeback that loyal fans are anxiously looking forward to. Carrying on the tradition of going across America with the Guitar Circus, Frampton and his merry band of rockers are all set to light the stage on fire with their electric riffs and shredding.
The guitarist, Peter Frampton is an internationally recognized producer, songwriter and singer as well. With an unmatchable prowess on the guitar, and a penchant for producing great music, Frampton is one of the most widely appreciated veteran rock musicians around today. While he made his mainstream debut in 1969 when he joined the band The Herd, Frampton has been an active musician since 1962. He joined his first band at the tender age of twelve. The Little Ravens, as they referred to themselves, were popular at his school, where David Bowie also used to study.
His run with the Ravens ended after two years, and Frampton went on to play in the bands, The Trubeats and The Preachers, subsequently. While he polished his skills by playing with these acts, it was his tenure with The Herd that gave him some popularity among the youth of the UK. However, he found a bigger fan base after joining the band Humble Pie as the lead guitarist. Polishing his guitar skills, learning to play around with chords and jamming with some of the biggest names of that time such as Jerry Lee Lewis and Harry Nilsson; Frampton learnt what it meant to be a true rock icon.
While Humble Pie enjoyed a fairly successful time on the charts and in the industry, it was Frampton's solo career that gave him international stardom. 1971 marked Frampton's departure from the band and his consequent solo releases that established his repute among the most gifted guitarists of all time. The 2006 release, Fingerprints, earned him a Grammy for "Best Pop Instrumental Album".
To date, Peter Frampton has released twelve studio records, twenty eight hit singles and three compilation albums. However, his most commercially successful venture has been his live albums. It was his 1976 live release, Frampton Comes Alive!, which made it to the top of the charts and received platinum certification eight times. It still ranks among the top selling albums of all time. Studio productions such as, I'm in You and Where I Should Be were chart toppers and went on to sell platinum and gold respectively. Singles, Show Me the Way, Day in the Sun, Which Way the Wind Blows and Do You Feel Like We Do became chart toppers as well. Loyal to this day, his fans are excited about his upcoming Guitar Circus, in which he will go across North America.
The Guitar Circus is one of the most fascinating concept tours scheduled for this year. Instead of taking the stage alone, Peter Frampton invites various other artists to join him on stage. While the house band and Frampton remain constant throughout the tour, different musicians will join in on different dates and at different venues. Previous line-ups have included, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Vinnie Moore, Vernon Reid, Don Felder (of the Eagles fame), B.B. King, and Steve Lukather. This year's Circus has already confirmed The Doobie Brothers and Buddy Guy as part of Frampton's line-up. With a promise of bringing to the fans the very best, Peter Frampton's Guitar Circus tickets are now available for purchase.
