Who doesn't love Dennis Miller? He is the king of controversies, arrogant and opinionated but at the same witty, humorous and super entertaining. You must have watched him on television many times. However, if you have not seen him perform live then you have missed half the fun. Dennis Miller tickets are among the most coveted commodities. They are must-by to feel the impact of this Emmy-award winning comedian's intelligence.
Dennis Miller embarked on his career of standup comedy after graduating from Point Park College in Pittsburgh in 1984. He used to do his act at comedy clubs in Los Angeles. It was there one day when his talent was discovered by Lorne Michaels, producer of Saturday Night Live. He was given the position of the anchor-person of "Weekend Update". It gave him the opportunity of putting forth his own brand of humor. He bashed political and media celebrities. His "I'm outta here!" became his signature catchphrase at SNL for six seasons. Meanwhile, he also appeared in HBO comedy specials that are "Mr. Miller Goes to Washington" in 1988, 1990 release "Black and White" and "They Shoot HBO Specials, Don't They?" premiering in 1993. By 1991, he had garnered enough popularity to start his own talk show. Dennis Miller Live started in 1994 as a half-hour program every week. It included interviews of celebrity guests, news updates and unscreened live phone calls. The most special feature of the show was the opening monologue of Dennis Miller where he discussed the topic of the day. These always ended in a 'rant'. His rants became so popular nationally that they became a part of his book titled Rants. The book was published in 1997 and became a best-seller. The show ended in 2002.
Besides doing the show, Miller did some specials that became really popular. These are "Dennis Miller: Citizen Arcane" in 1996, "Dennis Miller: The Millenium Special- 1000 Years, 100 Laughs, 10 Really good Ones" in 1999 and "The Raw Feed" in 2003. From time to time in his career, Dennis Miller has also ventured into other fields of showbiz. He acted in the big-banner films like "Madhouse", "Disclosure" and "The Net". In 1991, he hosted the Emmy Awards. In 1992 and 1995, he hosted the MTV Movie Awards. From 2000 to 2002, he was a play-by-play commentator of Monday Night Football on ABC. He is also a favorite pitch man of advertising companies as he has appeared in advertisements for M&Ms, Pizza Hut, Acura, Victoria's Secret, NetZero Internet Service, TD Waterhouse, the phone service 10-10-220 and Independence Air. In 2007, he started his own program on radio called "the Dennis Miller Show" to be aired by the radio network, Westwood One. In 2008, he was appointed the spokesperson for a nonprofit organization, USA Cares, which assists military families financially. He has also been a periodical guest on political talk shows on Fox News.
The success of the Dennis Miller can be estimated from the number of nominations and awards that Miller has received over the years. From 1994 onwards, Emmy Awards nominated Miller in various categories of host, writer and producer for seven consecutive years. He won five Emmys: twice for the "Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Series", once for "Outstanding Writing for a Variety or Music Program" and twice for "Outstanding Individual Achievement in Writing in a Variety or Music Program". Other nominations include a CableACE Award for his comedy special on Comedy Central in 1995 called "The State of the Union: Undressed".
Where he has garnered a huge fan base, Dennis Miller has also faced criticism for his sardonic wit. But what people tend to forget is that every person is entitled to his opinion. So if they manage to put aside their disagreement with Miller's take on things, they would agree with me that Miller has a way with words. His rants have spice and humor that can be enjoyed by everyone regardless of whose side they are on.
Intellect and humor are a rare combination indeed and should be enjoyed with an open mind. So what are you waiting for? Purchase Dennis Miller tickets and be intellectually stimulated in a humorous way!
