Comprised of the guitarist Heath Fogg, Singer Brittany Howard, Drummer Steve Johnson and Bassist Zac Cockrell, Alabama Shakes rose to prominence with the popularity of one its singles Hold On. In 2013, the group also received three Grammy Award nominations for the categories of Best Rock Performance, Best New Artist and Best Recording Package.
 
Alabama Shakes saw its formation back in 2009 in Athens, Alabama. After two years of struggle the group finally came up with an E.P titled Alabama Shakes which was released to media attention in 2011. Following the popularity of the group’s self-titled E.P, the group was then offered to perform at the CMJ and from there the group started being highly praised for its energetic live performance. Later in November 2011 the group finally secured a record deal with ATO Records in United States and Rough Trade Records in United Kingdom. On April 1, 2012 Alabama Shakes released its debut album called Boys & Girls which gained mainstream popularity both in UK and US.
