It pre-dates the earliest Olympic Games, and it was, brutal in various phases, the ultimate contest of the Olympic Games. Poof of this sport?s existence in the ancient times has been obtained by the cave drawings of wrestlers from 3000 BC in the Sumero-Akkadian civilization. Today, wrestling has been taken to a professional level and has become a part of American popular culture. The federation that organizes the biggest wrestling events, in the recent times, is WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment). Tickets to all the WWE events are sold-out very swiftly. There are billions of fans willing to spend trillions of dollars, just to get hold of their WWE Tickets.

Professional Wrestling - is a type of entertainment in which wrestlers battle each other in matches. These matches are scripted and also rehearsed in advance. Stage names are adopted, different costumes are worn, and grand entrances are made by some of the professional wrestlers, so that it facilitates in giving the fights a dramatic tension. Before and after the actual stint, many wrestlers also ridicule and challenge each other and the audience. Professional wrestlers are skilled athletes, who perform, not as competitors, but as entertainers. Therefore, the win-loss record of a professional wrestler does not specify his/her successfulness, as a lot of professional wrestlers never win titles, but they still capture the imagination of fans, and attract thousands of spectators and television viewers to the sport.

Wrestling events are operated by promoters, where a number of promoters, including Vince McMahon, Jr., of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), even control or own an entire organization; whereas, other promoters simply work for an organization. The events are publicized by the promoters via television ads, the Internet, and magazines. In addition, the promoters also arrange press interviews about their organizations or the wrestlers they employ. Appearances made by the most famous wrestlers can be witnessed on television entertainment shows, television series, or movies. This publicity has resulted in making professional wrestling a significant branch of American popular culture.

Then in 1979 the name got changed to WWF (World Wrestling Federation), when Vincent J. McMahon became its owner. The ownership passed to his son, Vincent K. McMahon, in 1982, and he began to expand the WWF. Then in 2002, the name of the organization changed again to what it is currently called - World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). The environmental organization sued the professional wrestling organization, which ultimately led the WWF to change its name to WWE.
