Opening in the 1870s as an opera house, Trcocadero, today, is a very famous, both a movie house and a concert venue. It is one of the very old theaters in the American history.

Offering musical comedies, vaudeville and parody, over the years, it is a very vibrant and lively music venue and a movie theater that features a brand new and a huge movie screen and state-of-the-art DVD projector.

The diverse range of motion pictures now hosted by Trocadero are called Movie Mondays. Trocadero is a must see, so do not miss out on your chance to purchase tickets to it! In 1870, the historic Trocadero Theatre opened as the Arch Street Opera House, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.

Two years later, a fire broke-out at the theater and it was completely burnt down. It was soon refurbished again. However, another fire gutted the theater and it was re-built again, and opened as the New Arch Street Opera House in 1883.

Over the years, the building has been known by many names, such as, the Arch Street Opera House, Park Theatre, New Arch Street Opera House, Continental Theatre, and so on. By the early twentieth-century, the theater had been finally known as the Trocadero Theater, which was shortened as the Troc by 1940s.

The theater has also been used as a fine arts theatre and also an art house cinema. One of the early performers at the Trocadero included Mara Gaye, a burlesque performer, who exhibited her talent there in the 1950s.

The Troc was then added to the Philadelphia Register of Historic Places in 1973 and five years later, to the National Register of Historic Places.

In 1986, the theater had again been remodeled into a dance club and a music/concert hall. Since then, the Trocadero is being used as a music venue till date which also showcases movies on Monday nights respectively, known as Movie Mondays.

The Troc had initially been designed by architect Edwin Forrest Durang, but had to go through many renovations and remodeling due various breakouts of fire. It has the capacity to hold approximately 1200 people. Other than being a top-notch live music venue and a movie theater, Trocadero can also be booked to host a party, banquet, meeting or wedding/reception.

It has two floors - each designed with its own facilities and bars, which allows one to comfortably accommodate events ranging from 100 to 1200 guests. It comprises soft and refined interior lighting and attractive stained glass, which makes it an exquisite location for banquets and receptions, especially.

The theater typically reserves new and emerging bands focusing on genres such as heavy metal, ska, punk rock, and industrial/gothic. Hip hop bands have also performed there, as have rock and roll bands.

The popular acts that have graced the stage at the theater include Lamb of God, Pearl Jam, Linkin Park, and many others. The venue also hosts local bands. The past local performers include Zasz, Ghost Town Locals, and Blank Generation among many others.

On the whole, Trocadero is a beautiful venue to either attend a live music act (concert), watch a Monday Night Movie, or even book it for a private event. The spacious and luxurious environment allows one to take in a fresh breath while enjoying the event.
