Floyd Casey Stadium
Floyd Casey Stadium is a name of a stadium, being located in the town of Waco of Texas. The main purpose of the building of the stadium was to serve as a place for the play of American football.
The place also serves as a home ground for the Baylor Bears. The stadium had seen an opening in the year of 1950 with a game against Houston. The stadium has a seating capacity of over 50,000 people. It is located about four miles from campus.
At first, the stadium had been known as the Baylor Stadium, it had got its current name during the halftime of the Homecoming game on November 5, 1988.
The stadium had been renamed for Floyd Casey by his son, university trustee and longtime booster Carl B. Casey of Dallas, he was the person, providing $5 million out of an $8 million renovation project.
The team had used to play at the Carroll Field, before the building up of the stadium, which was an on-campus field last used in 1935, and Waco/Municipal Stadium on Dutton Avenue.
The stadium is a property of Baylor University, which is a private, Baptist-affiliated research university in the town of Waco. It is also considered to be the largest Baptist University in the world by enrollment, which was founded in the year of 1845.
Baylor is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and is a member of the Association of Southern Baptist Colleges and Schools. The Baylor University campus is located just southeast of downtown Waco. The university is known for its programs in business, law, music, theology and science
The stadium has seen renovations for a number of times. In the year of 1998, the management of the stadium decided to install Sport Grass, which is considered to be a leading natural grass surface, in the entire world.
The stadium had seen another massive renovation plan, in the year of 2005. It was a time to have extensions in the Grant Teaff Plaza to memorialize Baylor's most prestigious head coach, named Grant Teaff.
The extended plaza had created great changes, quite necessary to update the facilities in the stadium. The shape of the stadium is a kind of elongated oval shape, which is running southeast-northwest, with having large grandstands on the sidelines.
There is a change in the southeast endzone after the clearing process, there are athletic marks being painted on the ground and the large LED scoreboard had been installed, right behind it.
It is interesting to know that before the creation of the current athletic marks, the area had been painted with gold color, with the name "BAYLOR" painted in large green block letters.
The northwest endzone has seating in front of the Carl & Thelma Casey Athletic Center, which is the site of the football offices, training facilities & stadium field house.
The Floyd Casey Stadium has been a great contribution to the world of American football, and the stadium has proved to be highly profitable for the Baylor University as well.
