Club Fugazi
American Planning Association (APA) named North Beach, San Francisco, California as one of ten 'Great Neighborhoods in America'.
You name North Beach and a mix of images and contrasts: arts, crafts, and jazz festivals; and a storied history involving known writers and musicians, movie sets and nightclubs come to mind.
Club Fugazi is also located at Green Street of North Beach. The portion of Green Street in front of the Club Fugazi has been renamed as Beach Blanket Babylon after the most popular show Steve Silver's Beach Blanket Babylon.
The building of the club was designed by an Italian architect Italo Zanolini. A banker and the founder of Transamerica Company John Fugazi financed the construction of the building.
It was originally an Italian social club called the Casa Coloniale Italiana. Previously Club was known as Fugazi Hall which was a common venue for poetry reading by members of the beat community. The club is segregated into a theater and night club.
400- seats Club Fugazi is famous for its long housed show Beach Blanket Babylon which is America"s longest running musical revue played for over 34-years known primarily for it gigantic hats hilarious parodies of popular icons and songs, with principal plot mainly revolving around Snow White.
This show has helped to launch the careers of hundreds of performers like Mary Cleere Haran, film director Paul Thomas, Evan Pappas and Don Stitt. This show is one of the reasons people come to Club Fugazi apart from going to night club.
