The Lion King Musical is lauded by The Daily Telegraph as ?a deeply felt celebration of life.? It is based on one of the highest grossing animated movies of all times; The Lion King. The musical had its first premiere in summer 1997 at the Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Later in fall of the same year, it opened on Broadway at the New Amsterdam Theatre. There it returned every night to become one of the five longest running shows in the history of Broadway. Over the years, it has garnered numerous international awards including six Tony Awards and two Olivier Awards.

 

The story of the musical follows the life struggles of the prince cub Simba. He becomes the rightful king of Pride Rock when his father Mufasa dies saving his life. However, Simba chooses exile due to the guilt of his father's death insisted upon by his uncle Scar. He ventures far to a place where he finds friendship with the comic duo, Timon and Pumbaa. Persuaded by her childhood love interest Nala, Simba vows to return back to claim his crown. What ensues defines his courageous and brave path destined through the Circle of Life.

 

The musical had its first US national tour in 2002 after successful debut on London's West End. Once again, it is returning for a US tour to major cities.
