It was in the year 1993 when the Moscow Ballet Company presented its debut show of the Great Russian Nutcracker. Since then, the show has toured throughout Canada and America, running successfully for over nineteen years now. Showcasing over an average of a hundred performances per year, this show features a high level Russian ballet performance. Alongside hundreds of bright costumes and hand-painted backdrops that create a three dimensional effect, human sized puppets and cutting edge production techniques, the production has attracted large audiences over the years. The musical score that is used in the Great Russian Nutcracker is that of Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker”. The show opens to Tchaikovsky’s Miniature Overture and moves on to presenting a Russian approach to his Arabian dance, Chinese dance, Marche and Reed-Flutes.

The ballet begins on the Christmas Eve when a family is hosting a lavish party where the Godfather appears and starts distributing gifts to the children. At the very end he presents this little girl Masha with a magical nutcracker, which is in the shape of a Russian soldier. That night when Masha falls asleep, she enters into a magical world filled with mice, snowflakes, a Queen and her nutcracker that transforms into a handsome Prince.
