Formed in 1917, the Toronto Maple Leafs are one of the charter members of the NHL. The franchise immediately left their mark on the league by winning the inaugural Stanley Cup championship. Since then, the franchise has accumulated thirteen Stanley Cups and has five division titles to its name. Early Years

A new NHL franchise was put together in Toronto and featured players from the Toronto Blueshirts franchise which became defunct upon formation of the new league. The Blueshirts were a talented squad and helped the new franchise win the first ever Stanley Cup. The team repeated the feat four years later and the league new they were going to be contenders.

An Era of Domination

The Maple Leafs gained a reputation as one of the most dominant teams in the league during their early years. However, they enjoyed their most successful period from 1941-1950, when the team went on to win six Stanley Cups, including three consecutive titles. The team enjoyed another era of domination during the 60s, when they went on to win four titles between 1961 and 1967.

However, following that successful period, the franchise regressed and their 48 year drought for another Stanley Cup remains the longest in the NHL. That being said, the current roster featured incredibly talented players and it will be interesting to see how they perform this season.
