Reading Royals
The Reading Royals are a professional ice hockey team located in Reading, Pennsylvania, USA. It was only in 2001 that the team got incepted into the sport by this name. Prior to this inception, the team was known as the Columbus Chill. The team had to migrate to Reading from Ohio to make room for the Columbus Blue Jackets that were and still are a major favorite in the NHL games.

This professional hockey team plays in the Sovereign Center located in Downtown Reading and their colors are purple, black, and silver. Since 2001, the Royals have ranked among ECHL leaders in regular season attendance. On March 25, 2006 the Royals played against the Trenton Titans with an audience of around one million fans. The hockey team has done exceptionally well and has exponentially increased their fan club. At this stage, the current home arena might not be large enough to accommodate for the ongoing fans ready to purchase tickets to see their favorites play.

Not only has the team been successful in increasing its fan club but also very successful in attracting celebrities and other athletes. Some known players to come out the Reading Royals organization include L.A. Kings goaltender Barry Brust, goaltender Yutaka Fukufuji, Phoenix Coyotes winger Ryan Flinn, and Anaheim Ducks winger George Parros, who is the first Royal to appear in the Stanley Cup finals. Larry Courville and former head coach Derek Clancey have also contributed to the Royals organization. The team now plays in the North Division of the ECHL (East Coast Hockey League) and is also affiliated with the Manchester Monarchs of the AHL (American Hockey League) and the Los Angeles Kings of the NHL (National Hockey League). The team's first entrance into the Kelly Cup Playoffs came in 2004. The team was able to win the win the North Division Championship in their third season under the leadership of their head coach Derek Clancey. Next year around, the team ultimately lost to the Trenton Titans in the North Division Finals for the championship.

Later on the Derek Clancey was replaced by Karl Taylor. This replacement did not provide fruitful at all. The Royals had been knocked out in the first round of the playoffs and failed to make the playoffs at all this past season. The Royals hosted the ECHL All Star Game and Skills Competition in 2005 and have recently finished their sixth season within the league. Irrespective of the losses, the slogan during the sixth season was PROUD TO BE A ROYAL.

Reading Renews Affiliation With Los Angeles and Manchester:
Reading, PA The Reading Royals of the ECHL today announced that the organization has renewed its affiliation agreement with the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League and the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League. The Royals have been affiliated with the Kings and Monarchs since the inception of the organization in 2001. Our organization is very happy to extend our affiliate agreement with the Reading Royals, said Los Angeles Kings Assistant General Manager and Manchester Monarchs General Manager Ron Hextall. Over the past six seasons, the Royals organization and the city of Reading have played key roles in the success of our franchise by giving our prospects a great place to play as they develop their skills and improve their games.

We're excited to continue our affiliation with Los Angeles and Manchester, said Royals' General Manager Gordon Kaye. From the very beginning of the Royals' organization, our relationship with the Kings and Monarchs has been an important part of our hockey operations structure. This affiliation with these big names have allowed for fans to enjoy watching a plethora of potential professionals dedicated to the game. These key prospects not only improve the game, entertain audiences but also become a part of the Reading family of ice hockey enthusiasts playing the game only because they love the passion and meaning of the sport. Throughout the years, the crowds have been entertained by legends like Barry Brust, Yutaka Fukufuji and Shay Stephenson. These individuals along with a handful of others have been successful in climbing through the system and earning a shot in the National Hockey League. The overall success of this affiliation has cemented the long term growth and affinity between the supporting groups. The agenda is to further foster friendship and evolve the relationship into a much deeper and streamlined professional activity for both the players and the fans.

A myriad of benefits come from this collaboration alone. With this affiliation, five players who were playing for the Kings ended up playing for the Royals, including the famous goaltender Yutaka Fukufuji, who last year became the third player in Royals' history to play for both Reading and Los Angeles in the same season. The others who advanced from the Royals to the Kings within the same season were forward Ryan Flinn (2001-02) and goaltender Mathieu Chouinard (2003-04). Other great players have followed a similar path.

A total of eight players have gone on from the Royals to play with the Kings, including goaltender Barry Brust and forward Shay Stephenson, both of whom saw time in Los Angeles last year. The others who have gone on to play for the Kings after playing in Reading are Adam Hauser, George Parros, and Jeff Giuliano. Last year, a total of nine players spent time with both Reading and Manchester. Over the course of the six year history of the Royals and Monarchs, an accumulative of forty-five different players have moved through the system and played for both clubs.

The season is starting with The Royals' playing the Cincinnati Cyclones on Saturday, November 3, 2007. Royals' full Season Tickets and Total Choice Flex Plans are now on sale. To obtain more information on becoming a part of Royals' hockey.
