The Weird and Wonderful Los Angeles Dodgers

From Kenley Jensen's cutters to the always honest Zack Greinki, we can all agree on one thing, the Los Angeles Dodgers are more wonderful than weird. Six time World Series winners with a number of NL Pennants and West Division titles to their name, the Dodgers certainly have a history they can be proud of. However, recently they've been having trouble reaching the top. Winners of the 2013 and 2014 West Division titles, the Dodgers won their last World Series in 1988 against the Oakland Athletics. That's almost 30 years ago ? 27 years to be exact (in 2015) if you ask any Dodgers fan. Nevertheless, there is hope for the Dodgers to return to their past glory. These expectations rely heavily on the players and the newly appointed management.

 Moneyball comes to LA

A few years ago, using statistical data to put a team on the field was unheard of in baseball. Gauging players, not by their prospective talent (what they are capable of) but by the numbers they put on the board challenged the very foundations of how Baseball worked in the US. It all changed when one man Bill James, a night security guard in New Jersey asked baseball to use empirical analysis to select players.

This idea influenced Billy Bean who hired Farhan Zaidi, an analyst out of Berkley, to be his data analysis sabermetrics assistant at the Oakland Athletics. In 2014, Farhan Zaidi took over as the GM at Los Angeles Dodgers. He is expected to work on the same strategy that did wonders for the Athletics and also helped the Red Sox break 'the curse of the Bambino' after 86 years in 2004.  Although there is no inkling of a curse or a bad sell, it'll be interesting to see how the Dodgers will perform with a new front office management.
