Holiday Pops is a series of live concerts by the Boston Pops Orchestra, which is basically a subsidiary or a subsection of the Boston Symphony Orchestra or BSO. The Boston Symphony Orchestra was founded by Henry Lee Higginson in 1881 as one of the five major Orchestras in America. Soon after its creation, Higginson had a vision of assembling an orchestra that would present the lighter side of the music, as compared to the music by Boston Symphony Orchestra. With having this in mind, the idea of Boston Pops Orchestra was realized in 1885, almost four years after the creation of Boston Symphony Orchestra. In the very same year, the Boston Pops presented the audience with its first ever live concert with its own, unique style of music fused with a pinch of light classical music. From the date of its creation up till the year 1930, Boston Pops went on to be conducted mainly by the European conductors and did not assign a conductor of its own until 1930, when Arthur Fiedler was appointed the new conductor of Boston Pops. Fiedler completely revolutionized the way classical music and Boston Pops was, and took it to the new heights of success. He remained pops' conductor for about 50 years and during his tenure and gave Boston Pops worldwide recognition. Fiedler changed the norm that the classical music is only for the upper and elite class, and made classical music common. He did so by performing a number of free concerts and also by performing some of the very renowned pieces in the history of classical music.

It was under Fiedler's command that Boston Pops was able to produce a number of commercially successful studio albums and not just that, it is also said that the Boston Pops is perhaps the most commercially successful orchestra in the world when it comes to studio Albums. It was in 1935, when the orchestra recorded its first ever studio album, and so started the series of successful albums. Boston Pops is famous for its tradition of organizing the biggest Fourth of July celebrations in the country, with the help of a free live concert. Of course, not to mention, this tradition was also set by the man who took Boston Pops to the top of the food chain, Arthur Fiedler. Today, Boston Pops' 4th of July concert stands as one of the highly attended event in the entire country. Also during Fielder's tenure, Boston Pops massively toured all across the nation and developed a sound fan base.

Following the death of Arthur Fiedler, the position of Pops' conductor was taken over by another of the greatest conductors of all times and an Academy Award Winner John Williams, who took the charge over the position in 1980. Upon taking the charge, Williams followed the footsteps marked by Fiedler, and further broadened the bracket of audience for the classical music produced by the orchestra.

The position of being the conductor of Boston Pops was then passed on to its current conductor, Keith Lockhart, who took charge in 1995 after the Williams retired. Under Lockhart's leadership, Boston Pops performed with a number of notable rock music acts including Rockapella, Ben Folds, Elvis Costello, My Morning Jacket and Aimee Mann.

The tradition of Holiday Pops concerts was also started off by the Pops' pioneer Arthur Fiedler back in 1973. The series of live music concerts, named Holiday Pops, is held during the holiday season around Christmas, and attracts major number of audience members every year. Initially the event was named 'A Pops Christmas Party', however later on the name was changed to the current one. Over the course of years, Holiday Pops has featured 11 Different Choirs and Choruses along with sixteen different renowned conductors. Although originally the event was held during the Christmas season, but the following year in 1974, holiday pops concerts also started being held during the New Year's Eve.

Since, both the Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, are just round the corner, Boston Pops Orchestra is all set for their series of live performances in Boston, Massachusetts. So whether you happen to be a Boston Locale or whether you reside in the nearby areas, spark up your Christmas spirit this year with Holiday Pops concerts, and grab your Holiday Pops Boston tickets today at extremely affordable rates, right here on Ticketluck.
