Wicked is a brilliantly crafted musical that features hit musical numbers, impressive acting, exquisite costumes and a great storyline to match it all. The music and lyrics are provided by the Academy Award­ winner Stephen Schwartz. The book is by Winnie Holzman whereas the musical is directed by Jou Mantello. The show premiered on Broadway at the Gershwin Theatre in summer 2003. Since then, it has been adapted in many countries including a West End Production. After a decade, its continued run has made it one of the longest running shows on Broadway.

 

The story of the show starts from a pre-Dorothy era of the Land of Oz where the friendship of two witches, Glinda and Elphaba, forms. Since its world premiere, the musical has garnered worldwide critical acclaim from its various productions.

 

In total, Wicked has received more than ninety major awards. The original Broadway production won seven Drama Desk Awards, three Tony Awards, four Outer Critics Circle Awards and a Grammy for 'Best Musical Show Album' among others. The North American touring production won over two dozen awards including seven Carbonell Awards. Internationally, the show has received Olivier Awards nominations as well as winning Helpmann Awards.
