The Book of Mormon is a musical that deals with the modern day concept of religion and the social construct. Written by Robert Lopez, Matt Stone, and Trey Parker, the story talks of three Mormon missionaries who take on Uganda as their new project, hoping to serve to the people's need and convert them to their religion. The backdrop of the musical is thus the village they live in, situated right in the middle of a remote area. The writers view religion with much skepticism, and this becomes more and more apparent as the story goes on.
The three witness as the people of Uganda suffer greatly from AIDS and other diseases, war, and the constant threat to their lives presented by a warlord. In the face of such adversity, matters like religion seem unimportant to them. With The Book of Mormon Rochester tickets, you too will be forced to reevaluate how different values affect other people differently and that western standards will never suitably fit the underdeveloped world.
The three writers have had much experience working as writers for popular television shows, all of which deal with critiquing the social and political setup, masked with good humor. Parker and Matt Stone had previously worked together for "South Park", the famous animated series that is based in Canada and Lopez had written for "Avenue Q". All three were fairly successful in their previous ventures. With their combined work they are hoping to capture a new audience altogether.
