Located next to the shore (southwestern) of Lake Michigan and with a population of over 2.8 million, Chicago is the largest city in Illinois (USA). For those planning a trip to Chicago, accessing the city is quite easy as there are two major airports where direct flights from around two hundred and eighty US cities and abroad come regularly. From the airports, the Chicago Transit Authority elevated (L) trains is the cheapest way to reach downtown. However, there are also airport shuttle buses, taxis, car rentals, and limousines available. There is also a seasonal ferry service on the Chicago River, known as Water Taxis. These provide a very convenient and scenic way of getting around downtown Chicago as well as the surrounding areas. Then there are pedi-cabs (foot-powered taxis) available but only seasonally.
Besides its unmatched natural beauty, stunning architecture, museums, lakefront parks, Chicago also attracts millions of tourists because of its numerous other opportunities of entertainment. Chicago houses world-championship sports teams, acclaimed symphony orchestra, award winning theater, and more.
Among the various entertainment options and venues in Chicago is the Navy Prier on the Michigan Lake. Almost 100 years old, the venue is without a doubt the city's top attraction. All sorts of entertainment including carnivals, rides, exhibitions, theatre, concerts are hosted here year round to the satisfaction of all the family members. For couples, a romantic dinner cruise and/or chartering a ship is also a great option. Other attractions include an 18-hole small golf course, a forty feet high wave swinger, a funhouse maze and an IMAX theater. For a big gathering, people can also rent pier's open spaces which include the outdoor English Garden Tent and the indoor glass hall with lots of palm trees called the Crystal Gardens.
The skyline stage at Navy Pier is an outdoor family-friendly pavilion with 1500 seats and protected from sun and rain with a 100 ft high roof. No matter where you sit, you will have a fairly good view of the stage provided you have the skyline stage at Navy Pier tickets before hand. It is used during winters as an ice skating rink and as a theater during summer. Renowned performers, comedians, and acts from around the world are scheduled to perform here. Classic movies are also presented here occasionally. The most popular show is the Cirque Shanghai show which runs from June to September selling the skyline stage at Navy Pier tickets like hot cakes every season. The show has a beautiful ambient with Chinese lanterns and the pagoda set-up around the boundary.
Despite there being a large parking garage on the premises, it gets a bit problematic especially during peak seasons. Therefore, it is better to use public transportation, like CTA buses or other such buses which go directly to Navy Pier.
